It's not a pistol. It's a Revolver.
That's OK though, some people call Magazines Clips too.

Pretty sure all K22's were 22LR with 6" barrel. (Like mine)
Being a 22WMR with the longer barrel makes yours a M17. (I think) Pretty rare though reguardless of the Model designation. I'd love to find one with 4" barrel in 22WMR that didn't cost as much as a new car.
You're also right about mine being old. It's actually one of the first post WWII run of about 2800 pieces made in late 1946/early 1947. Still going strong and shooting better than I can though. Shame they can't produce guns like that any more.
The S&W 22 Mag revolver belonging to L Williams is most likely a Model 48 with an 8-3/8" barrel since he stated it is not an old gun.
Open the cylinder and look on the frame behind the yoke or crane, depending on your choice of words. It should likely be stamped 48-something (another number most likely designating trigger, sights, etc., combinations)
I have my Dads Model 17 .22lr.He bought it in 1964 I think.4inch version I thought was Model 18.My Ex has mine.I have offered her 4 times what it's worth but she wont let me have it.

I'm not Craig, but pinned barrels were discontinued by Smith & Wesson in 1982, even though some revolvers were still manufactured with pinned barrels until all new available parts for them were depleted some time in 1984. So, it's a 1982 gun or newer.
Kinda on the same subject...I've got a smith 647 17 hmr NIB I just can't bring myself to shoot it... anybody ever shot one and are they as loud as a 22 mag.
THANKS, JEFF

I'm sure that you're right. I can't keep up with all the S&W model #s, hence the "(I think)" disclaimer.
Still like to find a nice 4" K frame in 22WMR though.
