223 wssm vs. 243 win.

You'll have a tough time getting the .223 WSSM to run said bullets with the standard 1:12"-1:14" twist...

Also... there is no comparison between the big 6's and the .22 centerfires when equal weight projectiles are in question... the 6's flat dominate. The exception lies in the slick 75 & 80 grain .22 cal AMax... but it typically takes a quick spun pipe (1:8ish) to run them... nobody that I'm aware of chambers anything but the .223 with a pipe that quick... and then it's typically 1:9... 'cept the Tikka at 1:8. If Remington were to bring out a .22-250 in the SPS or LVSF format with a 1:8 barrel... you'd all be standing in line behind me, 'cause I'd be camped in the parking lot.

Amazing how slow out of the gate gun manufacturers are. Guys are rebarreling
with 1:8's on a regular basis now, AR's have gone to 1:8 almost as one of the
standards and bolt gun makers are still sitting on their thumbs.

If he was looking at an AR it wouldn't be hard to get a 1:8 or even 1:7 for it. But I agree that the bolt guns are just not up to running this cartridge yet.

The standard twist for the 223wssm was 10 twist, mine shot 69gr very well, never cronoed them,I would expect the 223wssm to do very well. ed

Wouldn't bother even considering a WSSM in a bolt action. Ammo is too expensive store bought, and to much of a pain to reload.

In an AR where you are fighting OAL due to magazine lengths, they make a whole lot more sense, but in that case you would be comparing the .223WSSM and the .243WSSM.

Kind of apples and oranges.

I'm getting on comparable, or better than 22.250 velocities from my DTECH .223Wizzer, even with the short 22" barrel. 1:8" twist, and a 75 AMAX can be seated to mag length (I made sure of that before DTECH built it)...

Right now I'm smokin' 65 Gamekings over 3500fps. That's nothing a fast twist, 26" barreled .22-250 won't do, but mine is black & goes bang bang bang bang bang...

In my opinion stay as far away from that 223wssm as possible. Go with the tried and true .243win. I had a 223wssm and it was the biggest piece of garbage I've ever owned!

Very comparable performance between the two. My son owns a Browning in 223wssm and he shoots a 60gr BT @+3,700fps. We've hit 3,850fps with the 60gr but had a sticky bolt.

This is my 3rd season with a 243, and I really like it when the coyotes hang up way out there. I use a 75gr Vmax @ 3,300fps. I'm sure I could get more speed, but it shoots great groups.

Since you already have a 243AI, you must like speed! The 223wssm is the king of the 22 caliber factory cartridges.
