Exactly, at the cost of 25-06 ammo after a couple pd shoots you could have put money down on a .223.
.243 is the cheapest to shoot of the options you gave, but my vote is still for the 25-06

I have a 223,22-250,2-220swifts,308 I was looking to fill the gap from 220swift to 308 and looking for the best one to do that with

7mm will always be better IMHO

Better bullet selection, better ballistics, and more down range energy.

A 7-08 will shoot just as well as a 25-06 given its a quality rifle

I like the 26-06 also, used one for groundhogs for years and whitetails when I traveled and it never let me down. But I don't have any hands on experience with the 7-08 so really can not say which would be best.

First short actions are better. 25-06 you will need a long action, if you use a long action buy a 7mm rem mag. Now, my choice is the 243 win. You will get less wind drift. There are more .243 bullets to try than .257. Lapua make some great 243 win cases. Buy them, you will save money in the long run.

I have no idea how a short action is better then a long action? I own short and long action rifles and do not prefer one over the other. In fact my most accurate rifle is a long action Remington 700, probably a good thing it can't read. BTW, it's a .25-06 with Krieger barrel.

I'm running 243AI's and 25-06AI's. It still comes down to bullets. my '06AI runs 100NBT's at 3475 and the 243AI runs 105VLD's at 3200. I realize this isn't an apples to apples comparison but the 6mm's just have the BC advantage and theres no way around that. By the time they both reach the 300yd line the 6mm 105 has caught up to the 100NBT and from there on out the 105 beats the 100NBT in wind drift, drop, and retained speed/energy. Now don't get me wrong I love my 25-06AI but they just don't have the high BC bullets available that the 6's do. My 25-06AI has accounted for 5 head of game just this season, 2 antelope and 3 whitetail, at ranges from 80-460yds and its worked great. but anybody who says its some great step up from my 243AI is doing nothing more than kidding themselves.....or they've never ran them both side by side.

If you already have a 308, then I would lean on the 25-06, my second pick would be the 7-08. Have them both, love them both. My current 7-08 is a little carbine that works great in cover. My 25-06 is a tikka lite that is great for carrying around the prairies or sage flats. Take your pick, you won't be making a bad choice.
