.243 55-75gr bullets....good powder options

I don't know what it is with my gun, but I just can't find the kind of consistency I want with the 70's. I do have a nice varmint load using the Sierra 80 SBT and 4064 w/CCI.

Try stiff load of vihta n140 or n160, vihtavouri has become the powder of choice for my rifles i know its spendy and all but consistancy, accuracy,and man does it shoot clean twice as many rounds before a scrubbin just my 2cents

I gave up on the 55 Nosler. At first I was trying to seat it out too far (almost no grip in the case). Advice here was to seat it deep and let it jump. Still wasn't impressed.

Started with 58 Vmax and didn't like it at first either. Advice from the gallery here was 414 - I have no doubt it works well for some. On a final stab to use up the box I tried Varget. Bingo. 42.0 grains, .008" jump (OAL 2.676).

I've posted a group my 14 year old kid shot with it.

This pic is one I shot yesterday. What made me really happy was that it was not over a bench. I shot it sitting in my gobbler lounger using a Vanguard 2 "bipod" (it's really more like a pair of attached shooting sticks).

Oh and I have awesome luck with the Sierra 70 BK too.
 
One of my .243 lover Varget, and the other loves IMR4064. If you try to interchange shells the pattern and not group..
 
Win 760/H414 with the 55's is magic, max load for your rifle will probably be the most accurate, chomping on 4000 fps.

With the 70g, We shoot 47.0g of H4350 with a Win primer at 3600 fps, honest groups in the .300's.

With the 80g Sierra Blitz bullet, 39.0g+ of IMR 4064 with a Fed primer is magic in and around the 3450+fps area.

We have killed a slug of yotes with the 60g Sierra with Win 760, a tougher bullet that will put them down when shot from any angle. The 80g Sierra Blitz will put a smile on your face every time when you shoot a yote with it's lout "PLOP" sound.

For my guns, accuracy has been hit and miss with the 75g V Max.
 
My LR pdog rig is a 6mm Rem (real close to the .243 Win) and my best load after a lot of experimentation has turned out to be 75 grain VMaxes over H4350 at ~3700 fps. It's just starting to hit it's stride at about the point the .223 Rem starts to gasp.

ackleyman, I really like the terminal effects of the 80 blitz also. My load is 39.8 of IMR-4064 with a CCI BR-2 primer, and my gun seems to like a lot of hop so I keep them right at 2.615. 3,375fps or something right around there. I may try to go a little hotter again in the Spring, but with a BC of 319 this little bullet seems to git-r-done pretty far out there for me, bucks the wind good, and I've even had hits after nipping other stuff unlike with a plastic tip bullet.
 
Have "ALL" of you people on this thread have your heads up your OBAMA. Where is the moderator or he one of the posters. WHAT cartridge are you talking about? Everyone is giving load data and it has never been stated what cartridge it is about. There is about 40 different cartridges called "243" and about 100 different ones that uses .243 bullet. The only place on this topic that it says "243 Win" is on a target that is marked "243 Win" about 10 posts down. Do you people give data for a 7mm or 30 cal? I am not nit picking. This is how guns get blown up and people get hurt. Yor people scare me.

Am I to believe that you never abbreviate? You never say 308, 223, or even 22. I'd guess you say Bicycle instead of bike, automobile instead of car, petroleum or gasoline instead of gas?

sbranden; I see .243 and thats all. will your data that you gave fit in a 243Ren? (a 22 Hornet necked to .243)? I don't think so. Diogee: This is a lot more than just saying bike for bicycle. We are talking 50-60K psi.

Yes it is serious. And I believe anyone getting reload info off the internet should have enough common sense to do a little research. Buying and reading a reloading manual would be a good start. Or just invest in a red tipped, white cane with some dark sunglasses.

I'm not saying that you can't get good info, just that everyone should use caution. Same as shooting someone else's reloads.

I would hope that anyone reloading for a wildcat 6mm of whatever sort, instead of a standard factory 243 Win would be smart/cautious enough to investigate further.
 
Diogee;Thanks for the responce. I wish more people could see my point of view as I have had to take someone to the hospital because or a problem shooting reloades.
 
FA by the way not EVERYONE was posting loads they were just saying what type of powders they use! Only 3 people have even said what charge they use and sbranden was talking to ackleyman about his charge. Not once did anyone say try __grs of _______ powder! Why is it that you always come into the threads posted and complain about the same stuff everytime! If anyone is dumb enough to take a load right off the net and throw that charge in "Their" rifle well to be honest they shouldn't be around firearms to begin with!!! And if we scare you so bad why do you keep coming into the reloading section???? Do a search and see how many post where a new reloader asks ?'s and see how many times it is said "Start low and work your way up!" Also see how many times it is stated to go buy a reloading book first and read it and reread it! PLUS the OP said he already had a recipe for his 95gr Nosler so I take it he knows how to reload.

What is it with California people always trying to change the world????

And yes we do give data for 7mm and .30cal also if that's what we shoot!

If it makes you 'happier' FA, yes - my post was referencing what works in my Tikka T3 Lite in 243 Winchester... that I bought from Cabela's... in Hamburg PA... in 2009 (for about $248 as I recall - after discounting, other 'club event' special pricing, cashing in points, and paying taxes and other background check fees). Good grief man, I hope we don't have to get to a level of incorporating serial number information or any other such detail in our posts.

The people here or on any other gun forums don't scare me, they do help me in a lot of instances. But everyone still has to apply at least an ounce of common sense. Fine to offer a perspective when it comes to safety, but do it in a way that isn't so ridiculous the next time. If you want to talk odd-ball calibers, call it out right up front. This OP didn't, and everyone else knew just fine what we were talking about. Ridiculous.
 
Unless something weird is specified most everybody in the shooting sports knows 243 means the 243 Win.
