.243/6mm vs .25 Caliber Bullets for Coyotes

As stated above, even a "not so perfect shot" will put a coyote down hard. 100 grain NBTs do the trick. 75 V-max will get you out there with very little hold over when you have a fast load and sighted right.

.243 used to be my favorite and has a lot of bullet choices. Then I pulled the trigger on the 25-06. Its bang, Thwop, and look for the pile of fur laying so flat you might just have to go looking to see where it is.

All the ballistics and numbers off the table the 25-06 just works. There don't seem to be too many things in life like that anymore.

I'm excited to give the 25-06 a whirl. I bought a 26" encore barrel, 115 bt's, and dies last night. Lots of 4350 and Rl-22 on hand. Going to get the last laugh at those yotes that sit and snicker at me or just play deaf way way out there.
 
I have both 243 and 25-06 and also a 6mmwoa. I love both the 243 and the 25-06. If I know that my shoots will be long I grab the 25. They both have their place. I use the 243 with upto 75gr pills and the 25 gets over 85gr pills. They puts the smack down on yotes. If I want to open them up then I shoot the 25 at close range with 75gr pills.

One good thing about the .25-06 is it can't read ballistics tables and realize how bad it should shoot. Because of that it shoots like nothing I've ever experienced when it comes to hunting.

I think it would be so close in performance, exterior ballistics and terminal damage it wouldn't matter. Both the wssms, 243 or 25-06 will be barrel burners. At this point it may be easier to find 25 cal bullets than 6mms and that may turn out to be a big advantage. I have not seen great accuracy with any wssm in stock form. The 243 can be unbelievably accurate. The 25-06 more accurate than the wssms but not as accurate as the 243. These days I base decisions off comfort shooting all day as many times as I can get on target, accuracy and cost of reloading...The 6mmBR does everything I need it to, super accurate, cheaper to reload and barrels last longer. JMO
 
I'll throw my $.02 in. I shoot a 22-204, a 6mm-204 and a 25-204.

25-204 Haven' found a bullet yet that doesn't destroy pelts on coyotes, but it is a great deer rifle and it is my go to for northern whitetails. 100gr Partition at 2800+fps

6mm-204 great knock down on larger northen coyotes and 58gr V-Max/55gr NBT Lead Frees at 3600fps will stay in. Wouldn't even take it deer hunting. Haven't had very good luck will the 6mm on deer but I gave up on it in 1972 bullets may have gotten better since then.

22-204 Very easy on pelts even little southern coyotes it gets used alot. 40gr NBT's at 3950fps

I rarely take a poke past 300yrds so BC has little influence for me, all I care about is how the kill and how little damage they do to coyotes.
