.260 Remington, thoughts? comments? good, bad.

Love my remington 700 stainless in .260.As stated as I get older {54}, my go to gun for deer and medium sized game.Factory loads in 120 and 140 seems just fine imho...

I have a 700 short action customized this, that blah blah, chambered in .260 with a heavy Lilja tube.

I have tried exactly two loads for it. 142 SMK with 37 grains of powder gave me unimpressive groups in the .7s. The second load was 36.5 grains and immediately gave me .3s.

I loaded up 30 more test loads and they agg'ed out in the .3s. I stopped development there. I figure for my needs that will do. Not benchrest groups by any means, but good enough for most competitions and varmint shooting.

It is easy to shoot well, with minimal recoil.

We had a Ruger SS Compact that I bought my oldest son for 1st deer rifle 9 years ago. With it we killed three deer and one coyote, all but the first deer with Remington 120 Accutips.

Death on a cracker, and shot those 120s into .75, but he decided to trade it to my brother for a 77 Tang model Ultralight .270 with a longer length of pull.

My brother has already lent it to a neighbor kid in Colorado who piled up a good sized mulie with it. Bro got it for when he's drawn for his bighorn tag.

I have too many rifles these days, but if I see a .308 or .243 Savage and can get it cheap enough I may put a 24 or 26-in. barrel in .260 or .260AI on it for long-range shooting. The ballistics are much better than .308, and the kick is much milder.
