#3 contour barrel for 17 fb

I want to order a #3 contour 1-9 twist SS lilja barrel for my 17 fireball in McMillan Mountain rifle stock. I'm trying to keep the gun as light as possible, but want to make sure I have enough barrel to handle the 17 fb. I was thinking 22".

Mine is 16" #3 contour and shoots 1/2" groups Yep All day long as long as I do my part. I gaurantee, a coyote cant tell the difference between 3700 fps and 3500.

Oh and by the way, My barrel is standard Remington sporter in 17 Fb circumsized to 16 Inches.

I have the standard Rem SPS 17 fb barrel on my rifle also, but it's 24". Shoots very well.

I've got a couple #2 contour Shilen's, 1 being a 17 Rem, and like them a lot.

I would do a #2 tops for a 17FB in a MR stock. I have the same build planned in the future and I am going with a Pac Nor #1 in that stock.

I have a Lilja #3 contour on my 7mm/08 and it is in a classic. I think it would be a bit much for the MR stock IMO.

What are you using the rifle for?

I was wanting to have it fluted, that is why I thought a #3 would be the way to go. Its going to be used for varmints and mainly crows, I will not be bench shooting. Just a carry gun. I will be starting out shooting the 20 gr bullets, I normally shoot the lighter bullets.

I agree with jdunham. I just received my 17 Rem. back. I did a #1 Lilja finished at 22" to match the Kimber 204 barrel. The gun weighs 6lbs. 3oz ready to hunt. Other than for aesthetics, you won't gain that much with fluting......or maybe it's "loose" that much.

I am very happy with mine.

^Agreed^
You'll "loose" more money than weight IMO.

Don't know much about McM "Mtn Rifle" stocks, but if it's designed around Remmy's "Mtn Rifle" contour (which the name suggests) then SuperSeal's advice makes allot of sence to me.

My 17FB has a CZ sporter contour which is pretty close to most barrel makers #2, finished at 22".
Kills everything from Gophers to Coyotes just fine, and carries/handles like a dream.
It's my favorite rifle.

Good choice for going the Mnt rifle contour.

I have a similar setup, but mine has a PacNor light weight contour. Almost the same contour as a Mnt rifle contour.

Who did the work? I have the stock (McMillan rhino artic camo) and the Jewell trigger alraedy ordered. I'm not sure who to send the barrel and action to. I want the Bolt spiral fluted w/ the Sako extractor installed on it. Have all metal black.

SuperSeal is always making me envious.

This is a #1 Lilja. Ignore the Hubble Telescope.

Here is the factory barrel..............

The top one is a 17 Rem. and the bottom one is a 204.

Superseal's 17 Rem build is what started me thing about a 17FB with that bluprint. Love the Mt Rifle stock but it doesn't go wth fat tubes.

Bob Green does great work, he has done the last three for me. Great guy, great work and fast turnaround.

Very nice K22.

Dude, you are G2G with a #3 on a skimpy handle, but I'd not go any larger.

I went with a 24" #3 Lilja & Remmy AWR stock for my .17Predator build.
And I do believe that the AWR is even more svelt than the Mountain Rifle stock is???
