head shots are in my opinion unethical.

using head shots instead of chest shots because the round is unreliable for quick kills with a chest shot is absurd.

Oh, Ok, gotcha...

Puleeeeeze - both those does were killed instantly - they did not run off and drown in their own blood!

yeah I don't feel to bad about a head shot at 50 yards, which also happens to be the max distance a 300AAC is lethal... SO I guess its ok... I bet if he had shot them anywhere else it would have been the last time he saw them!

There are some guys out there that have put in the time & preperation... ....That takes a whole bunch of the absurdness out of it

OT of course, but I'm against head shots for a majority of hunters I meet. 1 in the brain does wonders, but most people I meet can't do that. When your target is the size of my fist and you're best repeatable grouping is just on the paper, you need a bigger target. And the number I've talked to that are head shot proponents that 'miss' 5 or 6 deer a year blows me away. If you can do that shot, you don't miss. You train, you take your time, and you make your shot. And if you can't make that shot, you go for the bigger target, the vitals. Just the way I was raised. I've been hunting my entire life (more or less) and have brought home every animal I've pulled the trigger on.

I've lost track of the number of dead animals I've found over the years that had obvious "misses" in the jaw, neck, eyes etc. Either that or people out there are aiming for the middle of the gangrene and rot and doing a [beeep] fine job of hitting it.

When I shot a lot, a small target was 0 problem to some pretty decent ranges. I don't shoot as much now, wouldn't consider it unless I had a close target and a solid rest.

I'll get off my soapbox now

Back on topic, you can load the 300 supersonic for hunting. Should alleviate some of the poor ballistics the subsonic round delivers. I keep going back and forth on building one, I have an AR with a completely shot out barrel and I can't find a cheap .223. Since it's just a plinker gun I'm not putting expensive steal on it. Good time for a caliber change

Ndindy,
I haven't even considered using the subsonic, I don't have a can and really have no desire for one. What got me thinking about this round is low cost hanloading, a lightweight and short rifle that should have low blast and flash. As far a head shooting critters, I've done it with squirrels since I was a kid, no big critters, not many misses on the small stuff but I have a bunch of misses and runners though the years while shooting bigger stuff, go figure I ain't perfect.
