OT of course, but I'm against head shots for a majority of hunters I meet. 1 in the brain does wonders, but most people I meet can't do that. When your target is the size of my fist and you're best repeatable grouping is just on the paper, you need a bigger target. And the number I've talked to that are head shot proponents that 'miss' 5 or 6 deer a year blows me away. If you can do that shot, you don't miss. You train, you take your time, and you make your shot. And if you can't make that shot, you go for the bigger target, the vitals. Just the way I was raised. I've been hunting my entire life (more or less) and have brought home every animal I've pulled the trigger on.
I've lost track of the number of dead animals I've found over the years that had obvious "misses" in the jaw, neck, eyes etc. Either that or people out there are aiming for the middle of the gangrene and rot and doing a [beeep] fine job of hitting it.
When I shot a lot, a small target was 0 problem to some pretty decent ranges. I don't shoot as much now, wouldn't consider it unless I had a close target and a solid rest.
I'll get off my soapbox now
Back on topic, you can load the 300 supersonic for hunting. Should alleviate some of the poor ballistics the subsonic round delivers. I keep going back and forth on building one, I have an AR with a completely shot out barrel and I can't find a cheap .223. Since it's just a plinker gun I'm not putting expensive steal on it. Good time for a caliber change
