It will take any animal on the North American continent, and 30 caliber gives you the most bullet selection. You'll probably want to use a bullet like a good Nosler Partition or a good bonded bullet. Something that won't fall apart with all that velocity.
Remember bullet placement is more important than velocity.

Agreed
I hunted with an old German Mark V for 30+ years. Puts Elk and Mule Deer down with authority, and doesn't ruin any more meat on a Deer than any other round unless you eat the lungs and ribs.
Cost of ammo's a non issue (IMO) unless you plan on shooting PD's. LOL
FWIW,,, 180gr Partition running at 3140 preformed best for me.
