40 gr NBT VS 60 gr Vmax out off a 223 for DRT and fur saving under 250 yards?

I loaded up 50, 60 gr vmax as well. When I sight in my rifle for the 40's I will record the clicks and adjust to sight in the 60's as well so if I want to switch back and forth I can just dial between the two rounds. Sounds like both will do the job the same out to 300 yards for DRTing coyotes but I'm gonna try the lighter, flatter shooting bullets. Its gonna feel like I bought a new pair of shoes,

I went to the range today to resight in my LTR 223. I put a steel EGW HD picantinny rail on it so i can take my leupold target vx3 4.5x14 40mm on and off to use my photon RT 4.5. I used warne QD low rings for the job. I'm not a fan of how picantinny rail look but it will serve its function. The old optic was being stubborn and was shooting same hole at 100 yards after adjusting it. I lightly tapped on the turrets before and after adjusting and it moved then. I sighted it in a 100 yards and then moved to 200 yards using my proven 40 gr NBT load that cloverleaves at 100 yards. The wind was nasty today, guessing 15 plus mph gusts so I wasn't expecting tight groups or miracles. The first three shot group at 200 yards measured a little over a third of an inch and I can tell you between me and the wind it was capable of better. I can cover the group with a dime. Well the 40's pushed fast apparently buck the wind pretty good. I tried my 22 wmr 30 gr vmax 2200 fps ammo and at a hundred yards they were blowing a good inch plus to the left. The friend I took with had to get back into town so I had to button it up. I clicked my optic one click up and figured it would put me dead center bullseye at 200 yards. Told the kid he needed to wait for 2 more shots. I wanted to see were I was sighted in at 100 yards with my load and then check to see where the 25 gr of benchmark and 60 gr vmax was hitting at 100 yards. The 40 gr NBT was only .8" high at one hundred! The 27 gr load of benchmark said it was 3751 fps in a 24" 1/12 twist so I guessed it would be 3600/3650fps out of barrel. At 3650fps per my nosler book it should be .9" high at a 100 yards. I can't wait to get out my chrony and check. I figured it would have been 1vto 1 1/4" high. Guess my my load is as fast or faster than what I guessed. Then I tried my 60 gr vmax load that I chronied at 2975fps. It it dead center .4" high at one hundred. So between the two loads the bigger slower vmax shoots .4" lower at one hundred yards so I can switch back and forth! I talked him into three more shots.lol I bribed him with shooting my gun at a water jug...then the big rush to go home quit. I tried my POF P415 load with LC brass loaded 2.260" with 25 gr of benchmark and a federal GMM primer. I was curious because loaded in winchester casings and rem 7 1/2 primers at 2.2" it will shoot .2-.3" consistently if I do my part. IMO it Didn't like the load...it shot a .668" at a 100 yds and about an inch to the right.

Here's my 200 yd target

And here is where my 60 gr vmax hit at 100 yards with my 40gr NBT sighted dead center .8" high at 100 yards. Got lucky, most my testing my loads it seems they move to the left or right of dead center from each other.

When I ordered my 223 LTR back in 00/01' a Remington LTR 300 SAUM was shipped by accident. I wish I bought that one! I passed and had them reorder my 223.

I forgot I was going to sell years ago and removed the timney trigger and put the factory Remington back in. I had the factory one adjusted to 2lbs. So it wasn't that noticeable at my last range session. I removed it today to clean and noticed the factory trigger in it and reinstalled the timney I found buried in the back of my safe in a few minutes. Back in the day when I bought the timney there was no such thing as YouTube. The timney was 34 oz when I put it in an hour ago. After watching a video on how to adjust it I made three adjustments to the bottom screw and have it at 20 oz. I went too light the second time and the bolt would fire when I closed it. I turned it in a 1/8-1/4 turn, tightened and tested. I slammed my bolt a couple dozen times as hard as I could and it didn't fire. If it's any lighter it will go off. I never had a scale back in the day as well. Back in the day I would fiddle around with timneys for hours....now 5 mutes.

After my range session last week I cleaned the barrel. I had what looked looked a dust storm comming out of it when I pushed my brass brush through it. I remembered I hadn't cleaned the barrel on my LTR since I used it last about 10 years ago. I can't believe it shot quarter MOA at 200 yards with a dirty dusty barrel. Well, between the timney trigger I bought for it years ago put back in and cleaning the barrel hopefully will tighten up the groups a little.
