40gr vmax accuracy with no tip?

Would removing the tip make the bullet a hollow-point??? If so, I think I will try a shot or two on Oklahoma hogs, just to see what happens.

On game i would expect it to still frag, just not quite as shallow maybe? Its a pretty massive hollow point, so tissue and blood are still going to fill the void and cause it to blow up i would think. If your testing on game id be interested in how it does.

Hollow points mushroom, vmax fragment. I have a lot of .223 so I'll find out soon.
Its the same bullet, its going to do the same thing. There are plenty of different hollow point designs- some fragment and break apart, and some mushroom and penetrate.

The polymer tip is just to increase accuracy in flight, it sheds that tip the second it touches skin.

I disagree, take a look at info available on Google when you ask "will a hornady vmax bullet fragment when tip has been removed".
I should have taken a deeper look into this before I made an assumption.

No offense, but i really dont care what google’s AI has to say about it.

The tip is only for in flight stabilization and to start the process of “expansion”, but the hide will start the process just the same with all things equal.

Im not sure if you realize or not that not all ballistic tipped hollow points are the same, look on hornadys website and you can read about the difference. If you only have time for two, compare the vmax to the ftx. Both are ballistic tipped hollow points, one is made to break apart on impact and the other to mushroom and penetrate. The red tip does not mean it will explode.

I have trimmed the tips on the Seirra 50 gr Blitz, seconds, shot them at a hundred and see no difference between them and the ones with the tips in tack!!
Ground hogs didn't care either way!!

I have used a lot of factory seconds and deformed or broken tips don’t affect accuracy enough to matter on a prairie dog town. What does matter is the base. The bullet base does the driving and is what makes an accurate bullet.
