5 mistakes commonly made calling predators

That would depend upon why you are hunting. The last few years a grey fox pelt will get more at the fur auction than the nicest coyote pelt in Texas. If you are just shooting to shoot then it doesn't make a lick of difference I guess.

I didn't know that. I wonder how many $$ I have given away to fly fishing buddies.

Didn't shoot them as I was waiting for cats, but it would have been fun to have a shotgun with an extended choke tube if I wasn't trying to thin out cats for the rancher!

I also thought I would have across this guy by now considering we call the same basic area. But who knows....maybe he has seen me with his night vision and I just can't see him!

Hope all is well on your end!!!

@Rusty Holt

You have to remember these are my clients doing the hunting and a lot of them are not use to this type of hunt. Small windows and quick shots. That being said, some people miss...

Thanks for offering your pic, but I have plentyyyy. I have pics with 'piles of carcasses' in front of me too. I will get some up very soon, i promise!

Still no one comments on my competitors with the same ball park price range. hmmmm

I think we've commented plenty on your price range. I have been looking since yesterday, and the most expensive outfitter I can find (other than you)charges $500/day, but that includes lodging, which you apparently don't. The pictures of his kills are also much more impressive than yours.

As far as I can tell, at least when it comes to price, you are in a league all to yourself. At least you've got that going for you.

Are fox not like a coyote where if you hunt them out within months new ones will move into the area?

I am not an authority on grey foxes but can tell you what I do know based on my personal experiences. I have found that you can totally hunt out a population in a particular area. They do not have a vast roaming territory as coyotes do (miles and miles) so migrant individuals are few and far between. Clean out an area and it will take a long time to rebound. I have found that specific foxes stick int he same area. Example- I call in one and it gets away for whatever reason. I can come back next weekend to the exact same spot and recall in that same fox again.

I think it depends on terrain. I have one tract I hunt with only small woodlots breaking up pastures and fields. The gray foxes there are like you describe. Some of the quail plantations I hunt have thousands of unbroken acres of pine and wiregrasswith hardwood bottoms. No matter how many you shoot, the hole always seems to fill up with more.

I didn't know that. I wonder how many $$ I have given away to fly fishing buddies. a few years ago a properly skinned and fleshed grey would get $40. This last years AZ average was $17 while coyote was $10. The only coyotes woreth much are Canadian silvers. I watched the international fur buyers walk past piles of coyote pelts and I was saying, "HEY, wait.. come back and look at these!" they weew on their way to look at the bobcat piles.

From a competitor's website.

Hunt 3: Texas Hogs and Dogs

This hunt is just what it says...Hogs and Dogs. We spot and stalk feral hogs around water holes during the day and call coyotes at night. This is based on a large ranch in West Texas. We have a large population of feral hogs that range in all sizes and colors, black, red, white, and spotted. You never know what you'll stalk up on, which makes for some heart racing action.

After the sun goes down, the action doesn't stop. We pull out the nightcalling gear and focus on calling coyotes from on top of our custom hunting rig. There is a large coyote population on the ranch, with the ocassion chance at a bobcat. Our biggest and most beautiful bobcat, to date, has been taken on this ranch in the 2009/2010 season.

* Unlimited Kills on Hogs, Coyotes, and Bobcat
* 2 Day Minimum
* 2 Hunter Minimum
* Max 3 Hunters

Spring Fling Price: $300/Day per hunter

Both of those include lodging. Apparently you don't. Texas Varmint looks pretty swanky. Good luck competing with them.

Actually, price is irrelevant.

If a business gets what they charge, then they are doing what their market will bear. If not, then adjustments take place.

PH, I'll have to ask you and the others to refrain from talking about price. This is the Predator Hunting Forum on PM where hunting talk ensues. You have been filled in about sponsorship, and still have not responded. So, if you want to talk about numbers, make them about animal numbers, and not business numbers or comparisons to other businesses.

Once you have been informed about sponsorship, and the rules about said sponsorship, you can't plug that business anymore. Enjoy the 15 minutes of fame in this thread, because once it's done, I expect to see only post related to matters not business related.

Thanks,

Barry

I need a new fox spot then. I'll leave mine alone this year cus I did a number on them considering the size of the area. Good info. Thanks

seems that way, but I dont think the mods want people talking about prices...

Blanks - If you are good enough coyote hand to kill 40 coyotes in 3 days, I am pretty sure that you don’t need a guide.

PH – you don’t live to far from Graham, you ever hunt any of the contest ran from there?
