6.5 Needsmore

I love when the Fudds come out to play
if you are lumping into this post what some others call Fudds being Erik Cortina...

I'll take it as a compliment.

As I'm sure you have no clue whom Erik Cortina is.
Which probably is a true indicator of your "vast" knowledge.
I do know the easy button is usually 140+ H4350 combo. But the rifle (Rem 700 PCR) I have has always shot factory 125grs hunting loads very well.
Yeah, I hate the "Needsmore" cartridge so much that I just added another to the stable today.

Besides when I'm at the Sierra factory picking up "seconds" to just do informal range shooting. The 100 to 120grs will net me more bullets than the 140-150grs as they are sold by the pound.

Thanks to @reb8600 offering in the classified has spurred the "Needsmore" into a little bit different direction (not a bad thing, just a different approach).
Having acquired some Barnes 145gr Match Burners in that sale to play with.

I've started this venture utilizing Winchester 6.5 StaBall to find the upper limit for my rifle with that combo. I chose to start at 40.9grs incrementally increase by 0.3grs to 43.3grs (max per Hodgeon).
This Barnes projectile is extremely sleek in it's ogive profile. Putting the bullet 0.020" off contact with the throat (lands?) netted me a C.O.A.L of 2.989" (CBTO 2.276"). LOL this actually blew out the main design characteristic of the cartridge. The round is longer than the magazine, of course with it's profile it would be subject to that. This group is just to find the upper limit with that combo.

(Locally 6.5 StaBall is a bit less costly than H4350 per pound, and easier to find, plus I had good results with it in some other loads)

I’ve became pretty firmly entrenched in the .260 Remington camp after the last couple of deer seasons. 3 for 3 on deer with shot distances ranging from 170-240 yards. Very minimal tracking distances to recovery, shooting 120 gr TTSX. Have not tried it on any smaller game.

Each year I try to shoot a few deer with a few different calibers/loads and this year was no different. Two adult does 65-75yds, behind the shoulder. Norma 143gr bondstrike. Perfect quarter size exits, deer dead within 35-40 yards. Same results with the Norma Whitetail 140gr.

If you use it within reason, I just don't see the issue with the 6.5cm and deer.
