6 x 45 (6mm 223)

Personally, I don't like the .243 in a CZ-527. I know someone has likely tried it, but I think the micro size action is at its best with the .223 sized cartridges. Also there is a good bit more noise generated by .243 than the 6x45. Don't get me wrong, I really like my .243, but I also like the 6x45 in small bolt guns.

rkite, you can chamber the 100gr. Sierra in an AR chambered for the 6x45 with no problem. Velocity is a bit lower since the long bullet is taking up some of your powder space.

Steve, I tried your trick of pulling some 62gr. ATK produced '04 milsurp and sticking a 60gr. V-MAX in its' place. Depending on the seating depth, I recorded pressures of 64KPSI to 71KPSI with the original load showing 61KPSI. Military brass and crimped primers are notorious for hiding high pressure signs.

After about 1 year of comparing ballistics I have sent my Tikka M595 in 17 Remington to my gunsmith for a Blueprint,Pillar and glass job and YES new barrel in 6X 45.I shoot bunches of Rock Chunk and Ground Squirrels and after investigating all decided on the 6X45,as I already have 2 - 243's, a 220 Swift a 22-250 a 222 a 204 and a 223 for varminting.
The round is Inherently accurate and has excellent energy and should produce some pretty spectacular helicopter hits on these Rock Chucks.
Well thats my story and I'm stickin to it.At least until I get the 6X45 back and put it to work this spring. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Been shaking out my little Dtech AR 6X45 the past two weekends. I'm getting a consistent 2950fps with 60gr Sierras and 2830fps with 70gr Blitzkings out of that skinny 16" barrel. XMR2015 powder and moly'ed boolits...

It shot 1/2" groups with either load through a 14x scope, but I can't hold that small with the 1-4X calling scope. It is definitely minute of coyote out to 300yds though... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

A few years ago I had my old Rem 600 rebarreled to 6x45 and it has turned out to be my favorite coyote gun. I also own a 22-250, 223, 243 and this year with the success of my 22-204 I built a 6mm-204 and it is just more of a good thing.

My 6x45 is getting 3350fps with 55gr NBT's and I'm running 55gr BK's at 3300 with a 22" barrel.

what did you use to check the pressures?? so you are saying the military loaded these to unsafe pressures?? kinda odd as these have to function in 130 degree temps and 0 degree temps

I think he is saying changing bullets makes it a different load. Length of bullet in case, bearing surface of the bullet or something else.

You guys gotta quit bumping this thread to the top. I've wanted something in this round for a while, now I've about got myself convinced I need it!

peace.

Steve, I used our SAMMI spec transducer barrel in .223 Remington. The recorded 61KPSI for the original lot of ATK ammo is right where it should be when fired in a true .223 Rem. chamber. This is an experiment I had wanted to try for a while, when I read your post, it gave me a reason. Unloaded got it right, when you seat a totally different bullet over a max load, pressure can change. In this case, it was not that much.....but it could have been.

The AR bolt and barrel extension will handle as much pressure as most bolt guns. The brass will be the first thing to fail in either. You do have to take port pressure into consideration though.

Thanks for all the replies and comments guys! I'm going to go with it, but it won't be ready until early spring. There's about a 3 month wait on the barrel and I have to wait until the fat guy in the red suit comes first. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

The TCU has a sharper shoulder angle and straighter body, can't remember if the shoulder is moved forward or not. think 6x45mm Improved.

Just like the 6mm/204 is an Improved version of thr 6x47mm.

is there such a thing as 6 X 45 AI
and has anyone had an AR made for it.???

Does an AI version give any boost like a 223 AI does over a regular 223??

Before running out to get a wildcat - check on die availability and ease of making cases.

With any gas gun, you will loose cases with fair regularity - don't get a caliber that needs a lot of case forming.

The 6MM x 45 (6MM-223) is not available as an AI version.

Stick with the plain 6mmx45 unless you have lots of money and too much time on your hands.

You can get a custom reamer in 6MM-223 improved and have a rifle built and yes it will give you a little boost but as cat shooter said custom dies and lost brass you have fireformed will be a little expensive.
