6 x 45 (6mm 223)

For what it is worth I have a custom 6X47 that shoots bugholes with 70 grn SBK's and 65 grn V-max. Nosler's in 70 grn shoot as well and all three have taken coyotes without a single spinner (like I used to occasionally get with my .204 35 grn Berger's)all have been DRT. My velocities are right at 2950-3000 fps. I believe the 6x47 can get a hair more velocity than the 6x45 but I am not pushing it to that end.

I am reading this with interest, am considering it in a Mini 14. Does the 6 X 47 fit in the AR magazines? I realize the 6 X 45 will.

is there such a thing as 6 X 45 AI
and has anyone had an AR made for it.???

Does an AI version give any boost like a 223 AI does over a regular 223??

Yea they do, it's called the TCU /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

No worries about buying "special reamers or dies. Plenty of them around.

I'm in the process if collecting parts to have a 6x45 rifle built.
I had a 6x47 benchrest rifle in the early 1970's and used it in competition. That was prior to the 6mm PPC arriving on the scene. The rifle I had was flat accurate; no other words required. It set a national 200 yard record in Canada.
IIRC, I used 70 grain bullets and 748BR powder, with Remington BR Primers.
I wouldn't mind doing another 6x47, but I've never had a 6x45, so I'll go that route this time. The difference between the two probably isn't worth discussing as case capacities are only 1 grain of water difference between the two, in favor of the 6x47.

Good to see your post. I was wondering if it was worth the bother of trying to fit the longer case in a mini magazine. The 6mmTCU seems like it may well match capacity of the 6x47. I wonder how well the 40 deg shoulder would feed in an auto loader. Would it be worth the little extra oomph?

The 6x45 is only .010" longer than the 6TCU case, so I don't see a problem with it. Maybe someone else more versed with it can chime in and correct me.
I think that the TCU and the 6x45 are about identical, except for the shoulder angle you mention. And, off the top, I think that the 6x45 would feed better than the TCU. But, I'm not a gunsmith, so that issue needs to be flown by one of them for discussion.
