a few .17 Rem questions.

one of the coyotes i shot just yesterday was at 300yds.walking quartering away i shot him just behind the shoulder instant death.25gr. bergers

had some range time today and was not happy with the reloads. 2 or 3 right where they should be then 2 flyers waaaaay off. brought 1 box of factory loads and shot that up, got where i wanted to be just before i ran out and made the mistake of shooting a few more reloads which were no where near point of impact of factory. left pretty frustrated. not a big fan of the Redfield 4x12 either but it will have to do. will not have any range time until next weekend. shot way more then i planned on, around 50 rounds and i'm sure the barrel is thoroughly fouled now.

Mine likes 24 grs of varget .015 off the lands. gets 4000-4025 fps, 1/2-5/8in groups with 25 gr bergers.

fouling at least in mine hasnt been an issue. I shoot 30-50 rnds or more befor I push a quick patch thru not because I have to but for some reason I feel I should LOL.

My old .17 barrel likes to shoot clean. My barrel had about as many rounds through as yours when I got it. Rustydust gave me some good tips that got mine shooting good.
First get some JB bore paste, "the abrasive kind" and run about 500 passes of the stuff through her. Clean with your bore with good copper solvent. Shoot a few rounds and see if she is fouling up and given flyers. If the copper fouling goes away and your still getting flyers, you might want to bed your rifle.
I had some trouble getting good chamfer and getting bullets to stay straight while seating. Russ said the lyman VLD chamfer tool would cure it, and sure enough it did.

Since your 17 Remington is a first year of production rifle, it will have a 1-0" twist barrel.

Because of that it may not shoot the longer bullets like the Hornady 25 grain V-Max bullet and others with similar lengths. It should shoot the 25 grain Hornnady HP bullets very well.

1-0" twist? Kind'a like galvanized pipe?

wouldnt a 1-0" twist be a super fast twist, rather than like galvanized pipe.

If you don't mind, tell us more about the Nagel bullets, how they perform on coyotes. What about fox? Any experience with the bullets on them?

I assume you are referring to the 25 gr. open tips. Do they act more like a varmint bullet or a match bullet. I guess I'm trying to rate them against the Berger Target Match 25s.

What bullet weights does he offer and prices?

Do you have a contact phone number?

Appreciate any info.

Thanks.

I don't know, I just switched to them. They shoot in the .7's with 24gr of Varget. I'm going out next week to test them on fur, I hope I don't have the same results as you.

Great find! I have a 700 BDL in 17 Rem also. The 25 Grain Hornadys are great in it. I sighted mine in dead on at 200 yards. The farthest I have killed a yote with it is 205 yards. I shoot for the vitals and high shoulder shot, drops they like a sack of dog sqeeze! I put mine in a B@C stock with PTG bottom metal and A 10 round mag, Bedded the action and toped it with A Ziess 4-12x42.

Geess..... You's guys are tough.

Guess I missed one (1) significant digit. I could have said it had a 1-90" twist if it had been a newer (post @ 1973) rifle. All in all, I'm glad I made a few peoples' day more beneficial to their self-esteem and worth that might not have transpired without me.

Aha. A 1-90" twist. I understand that is just the ticket for proper stabilization of the rare and hard to find 5 grain .172" bullet.

Yes. I am a smarta$$. But a smarta$$ full of love and other things.

The 5 grain bullets are hard to find. But have you tried to find any of the 2.75 grain bullets lately? They will shoot well in rifles with up to a 1-115" twist. Any slower than that and they start to wobble, but at least they don't shed jackets due to too much rotational velocity.

I shot the factory barrel out on mine, so it now has a pac-nor that shoots in one hole.i need to try some nagels.i love the bergers but have always wanted to try other custom bullets

Well, looks like my question about a contact phone number is right on the box in the photo above. Didn't notice it at the time.
