A Hunt for Wyoming PM members

Feb. 24 & 25

I am hosting a hunt on the 24 and 25th for PM members and their buddies. All members form wyoming and the surrounding areas are invited (that means you elks). I am intentionally making it as informal as possible. Basically, we will meet together in a spot, spread out and hunt during the day, etc... Guys are responsible for their own sustenance, lodging, etc... Basically all this is is an invitation for you to come hunt with me and my brother. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Perhaps i the future we will further organize this. But, for this hunt, this will have to suffice. So....Loacation..location...location. I am prestently thinking of the area around Baggs for a couple reasons. First, loads of public land, second, generally hospitable weather(meaning lower than avg winds), and loads of yotes. Of course, guys can stay for Sunday too if they want, be I will be headin back. So how about it? Tell me what you think, and if you're in. We will iron out an exact destination in the near future...So stayed tuned to this thread if you want to come. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Your input is welcome, Thanks again, Dan

Danny-boy, I think you can look forward to some company that weekend! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Think of a meeting spot in town where we can all have breakfast and get acquainted and discuss destinations. Maybe a pizza joint on Sat. nite for a re-cap of the days activities, and coordination for the Sun. stay-overs.

Ok, that sounds good. I can house a couple here in Craig Friday and Saturday night, as Baggs is Just 45 minutes away. There are also 2 hotels in Baggs for guys to stay at, however you need to make reservations now as the gas guys keep it tied up. As far meeting place, there is a cafe in the one hotel and then one in a modular converted for a cafe. For me I will only be able to do Saturday and Sunday. I have hunted around Baggs a couple times with Knapper. We have had pretty good luck, but do not expect our honey holes. Well it should be fun. Count me in one way or the other. Knapper will also make an appearance too, I bet.

I will see what I can do with work. I am leaving to go to Ft. Peck Reservoir in Montana for 10 days of ice fishing and Coyote hunting on the 8th. I will be back on the 18th. I will make my best effort to get the 25th off. We have talked about this before Pied Piper and I would love to be there.

Elks didn't know you were from Craig. Nice little town and love the surrounding area too!!!

Haven't been in that area since 94/95 when I was up that way and killed a nice 28 inch mulie. My first deer actually.

We hunted about 14 miles north of Craig and usually ate in Baggs in the evening after the hunt. Buddy owned a cabin about 8 miles east of Highway 13, just below the Elkhead Mountains about the 7,500 foot elevation. It was beautiful country. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Didn't realize that place was loaded with yotes though. We did shoot alot of beaver, porcupines, whistle pigs though.

Has the city grown much in the last 10 years????

wouldn't call it a ctiy ;-) lets keep it that way! Sounds like everyone is Okay wtih baggs? Nobody wants to reccomend lander, or Kaycee? Thats all right I suppose.

Id love to come out, meet a few of you guys, and learn some new tricks. Two questions before I beg the wife for a hall pass...

Bout how long does it take to get over there from Laramie? (I'm assuming up 287 from Fort Collins to Laramie then over would be the best route.)

And do us CO guys need Wy licenses to take dogs north of the boarder.

I'd only be available for Sat/Sun. A location a lttle more east would make things (Day Trip!) easier for me, but I'm never opposed to a road trip when I get to shoot something at the other end.

Sweet, that's nuthin. looked longer when i mapquested it. May have to bring flowers home now. Internet access at work only. Hopefully will have good news in the morning.

Kind of a rough weekend for me, but I will see what I can do. I should be able to hunt Friday and Sunday. I am not sure what you have planned for a get-together on Thursday night, but if it is not too far from Rawlins, I might be able to catch up with folks. Sounds like a great time, we just saw 11 coyotes on Saturday in that general country. May have a little trouble with snow drifts if people gain any elevation, but that is pretty much expected in most of this country in the winter time. Four-wheel drive is definitely required. COcajun, technically, you are supposed to be able to prove you have had hunter's safety if you were born after January 1, 1966, but otherwise no license required for coyotes and fox in Wyoming. You do need a furbearer's/trapping license for bobcats. Dan, are we going to be allowed to cross into Colorado?

Just to reiterate what elks said, not a lot of services in Baggs, so people might want to consider Rawlins or Craig if you are looking for more creature comforts (like pizza for example). Anyway, looking forward to meeting everyone.

Yeah. CAn we meet in Rawlins? Is that OK with everyone? It seems like a better locale for the general public. We will spread from there. Anyone have any restraunt ideas to meet at?

Got the hall pass! I love that woman!

I have to work on Friday so I'll probably head out that way Friday evening. Let me know where to meeting spot for Fri night or Sat morning will be and I'll be there. I've got to try and keep this thing on the cheep side so anybody know some public land close to there that I can park and sleep. I've got no problem crashing out in my truck. (4 wheel drive and will fit 3 and guns if I need to be a ferry) I might also be willing to split a room with someone if that's an option. I'm good through Sunday evening too, if anybody's up for extending through then?

Knapper, no prob with hunter ed card, I keep it in my wallet. I guess I'll just get to be camera man if the cats come in.

Where ever you end up at let me know. I can't do anything other than on the weekend. I could house a person or 2 here in Craig. Might not be where you all are meeting, but we could definitley make it to baggs to hunt. I vote for the original plan of hunting out of Baggs and staying in Baggs... No, the nicer amenities are not there, but it will save gas and travel time. There are 2 Cafes there and 2 hotels. They could definitely be a good meeting place for after the Hunt, or a morning breakfast before the sun comes up.

Hey all. just got back form baggs. Called in a dozen, killed 4. Sorry to get the jump on you, but I promise there are more left! As far as baggs info, here is a link to motels, retraunts, stores available. Baggs Info

Life is good in baggs. We will meet in baggs @ 7:00 thurs night. Is that good with everyone? tell me something different if you would like. elks, can you recommend a place to meet and eat?

I would say the Drifters Inn Resturant will be about the best place. You might call and let em know we an approximate group Size a week in advance. I will make it up to eat with ya all, but wont be out until Sat. Morning. It is also right in the middle of town and will probable be where most sleep. Again, Anyone needing a spot to crash let me know I am 45 minutes on dry roads from baggs.
