Aimpoint or Eotech?

What are your intended plans?

I have an Eotech 512 on my AR (Bushmaster), but it's not used for hunting. My usage is LE, self-defense, tactical and general plinking.

With that said, I've had it on my rifle for several years and have no complaints or issues. Some people wil complaint it eats batteries and that is shuts off after 4 or 8 hours. I run lithiumm batteries in my Eotech and they last all year. As for not being able to leave it on like an Aimpoint, I never found a need for that.

Personal preferance.

I prefer the display of the Eotech...the only con I would see on some rifles is it mounts a bit high and may look bulky. I've got 1 Eotech and 3 Bushnell Holosights....needless to say I'm a bit biased.

The first generation of Eotech were terrible on batteries even if the optics were off. The new versions don't have that problem anymore. Both optics are top notch. I myself prefer the Aimpoint. I don't like the 65mm ring around the dot. Also the battery life is night and day between the two. Eotech can't even come close to the Aimpoint battery life. I run an Aimpoint ML2 on my duty rig. The battery life is 10,000 hours on one battery. The M3/ML3 series are 50,000 hours, and the TI series is 70,000 hours. That is 5 years without every turning it off. I have had Eotech optics on a couple of my rigs, and they ran great. I'm sure your be happy with either.

If your Holosight is the original one, it was also made by "L3". It was a Eotech 510 without the shield and with a different decals.

I can't speak for Aimpoint, but I did get a great deal on my first Eotech last week. A 512 LNIB for 300.00. Anyway, after using it, I don't think I ever want anything else on my Colt 6940. If Aimpoint is anything like the Eotech I don't think you can go wrong with either.

if you plan on using Night vision go with eotech -much better field of view. otherwise you can't go wrong with either choice. Pros-Battery life for aimpoint. Some people just line up the outside circle on the eotechs and shoot so that could help at longer distance where lining up the center dot can be a pain. I can't stand the small buttons on the eotech, but not a big deal because you turn it on before the hunt begins.

Aimpoint! I have two 9000Sc red dot scopes, one on my Mossberg 835 and one on my Benelli SBE 2. They withstand the heaviest recoil and get 50,000hrs + battery life.

Nice rigs.

I have had both. Finding the center dot on the Eotech makes me instinctively close my left eye. The Aimpoint is natural for me to shoot both eyes open. Eotech has too many buttons and is hard to turn on with gloves. I never turn off my CompM4s (8 year battery life left on) but even if I did all there is is one good sized knob to turn. I can do it with heavy gloves if I had to. Aimpoint lens caps seal the lenses completely. Eotech does not offer lens covers. They can be bought aftermarket but are not much.

Here we are again locked in another Ford vs Chevy debate. I'm a Ford guy and an EOTech guy. I've beat the piss outta my EOTech's and never had a problem. I've killed coyotes @ 80 yards with my Benelli M4 and EOTech 552. I've killed turkeys at 65 yards with the same combo. I've also killed hogs and coyotes at 300 plus yards with the EOTech XPS2-2 with the G33 magnifier. I'm sure people have had similar results with their aimpoints. EOTech offers more reticles than aimpoint. Aimpoints have factory caps. They're two entirely different sights. We could sit all day and argue back and forth about who did what to who but in the end, everyone's opinion is just as biased as mine. I have some great friends over at EOTech. But more importantly, I believe in their product. You'll have to try 'em both out for yourself. Good Hunting

The biggest ones to me are:
Aimpoint has the battery life.
EoTech is faster and does not block your peripheral vision like Aimpoint.

Both are rock solid RET DOT Sights.
