Albino Coyote?

I think it is real cool that you gave the dog to your buddy to help his business. Yeah, it may be worth some coin, but you are always going to be able to say "I shot that albino dog sittin' in so-and-so's place" and you get the bennefit of helping a friend out.

wow wow, I had caught a albinos muskrat in a trap when I was about 12 yrs old, it also had blue eyes, taxidermist offered me 400.00 cdn back then, Dad gave me the 400.00 and opted that I keep it.
I have it mounted, and glad I kept dnr officer said it was 1 in 10 000, better then a banded goose in my opinion!

Boy there is no shortage of dogs up here this year (Swift Current Sk). I took 2-3 per day with my muzzleloader while scouting for deer. I bought a call back in Sept. and called in and harvested two dogs right off the hop on my first set up. Even though we have an abundance of coyotes here this year, I can really see how these guys are a crafty hunt. I've never hunted anything as skittish and wary.

Congrats Here is some info : A further difference between albinism and leucism is in eye colour. Due to the lack of melanin production in both the retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE) and iris, albinos typically have red eyes due to the underlying blood vessels showing through. In contrast, leucistic animals have normally coloured eyes. This is because the melanocytes of the RPE are not derived from the neural crest, instead an outpouching of the neural tube generates the optic cup which, in turn, forms the retina. As these cells are from an independent developmental origin, they are typically unaffected by the genetic cause of leucism.

Hey thanks for the support, and the information guys. I've been snooping around trying to find out more about different types of albinism, but not having a whole whack of luck. My bud skinned him out for a full body mount this morning. Told me the roof of his mouth, and pads on his feet were pink also. Kevin.

I know that there are a lot of rule about what does and does not qualify as a true albino. But that is as close as anything I have ever seen posted. Heck have your buddy put some pink eyes in it.

Rocky

To MY knowledge, a general definition of albinism is "Lack of melanistic pigments."

Meaning blacks, browns.

Blue eyes are quite possible as they contain NO blacks or browns. I am not sure of the specific requirements for leucistic animals but this technically qualifies as albino, even if is is also leucistic.

A friend of mine use to have an albino Burmese Python, yellow and white, with blue eyes. Talk about creepy! And I LIKE snakes.

Swifthunter,
Other guys have already told you this, but that truly is a once in a lifetime trophy!!! The important thing now is to make sure your buddy is a very, VERY good taxidermist. Choose the mounted position very carefully making sure it is a realistic pose. I've seen some awful coyote mounts (I hate those mounts with snarling teeth!!) and it would be a serious shame to waste this unique specimen.
