Last week I was watching Whitetail Revolution on OLN when I got a little mad /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif after viewing their Overheard segment. The subject was about hunting on Sunday.
They spoke with two guys, Ron Spomer ( a widely published writer and photographer, is a rifles columnist for Sporting Classics magazine, a technical writer at Rifle magazine, and a field editor at American Hunter magazine ) and Michael Hanback (is a columnist and contributing editor for several popular outdoor publications, including American Hunter, Outdoor Life, and Whitetail Hunting Strategies ).
Ron was in support of hunting on Sunday and appalled that many of the states in the east do not allow Sunday hunting.
Michael Hanback was against hunting on Sunday and for those of you that did not see the segment I am going to quote him /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif . He said “ You know I grew up in Virginia born and raised there and I’ve never hunted on Sunday in my home state, never had it, it’s part of our tradition. We don’t want other people form other states or other organizations coming in and trying to tell how to change our laws to allow people to hunt on Sunday. I like keeping our law in place where we don’t have hunting because we do give the land owners a brake and we do give the deer a brake, and that’s over all good for the image of hunting. It’s part of our tradition keep those no hunting laws in place in Virginia and other states and I’m in the majority on that with non hunters and hunters alike”
Now just because I can not finish without telling you all my opinion of Mr. Hanback. First, I feel that in his position he should be trying to promote our sport. Not faning the flames for all the anti hunters giving them more ammunition. They all ready spend more time protesting our sport then most of us do doing it. The C.A.S.H. (Committee to Abolish Sport Hunting) http://all-creatures.org/cash/alerts.html people keep the no Sunday hunting bill on their agenda at all times for all states. This has nothing with Sunday being the Lords day the anti hunters say they should have one day a week when they can walk in the woods and feel safe without the fear of being shot (because we all know that happens all the time) they already have nine months what more do they want maybe they should go to church during hunting season.
Mr. Hanback words his second sentence as if he has hunted in other states on Sunday that’s kind of hypocritical don’t you think. What’s this tradition thing he speaks of putting up a Christmas Tree is a tradition no hunting on Sunday is a law and I still cant figure out who he speaks of when he says we, it must be that mouse in his pocket. He disgusts me and he’s a black eye on hunting and the closest thing to a dirt sandwich I can think of. I will not buy any of the products he promotes and I will not watch his shows.
Now I believe in the Lord and I realize Sunday is the Sabbath but my point is this. Some of us have to work six days a week this does not leave much time to hunt in an already short hunting season. Everyone else can enjoy their sport on Sunday (Nascar, Football, Basket Ball, Baseball, Sking, Fishing ) whatever it maybe, so why cant we. Can anyone explain that to me?
Here are some links to write in Virginia please take the time to write and anyone out of our state feel free to help or give me some ideas.

If you are in a no Sunday hunting state take the time to find the links for your state and write them.
I have always felt like my one letter would not matter but having a group of hunters such as yourselves behind me maybe we can all start chipping away at our state Legislators and get these ridiculous laws removed, so we can all enjoy a very family oriented sport on what’s for some of us our only day off. Thank You All For Your Time Chris,
