TJ, I question your numbers there--can you link to where you got them? I had different AK numbers which I did link. Perhaps mine are wrong, I dunno, but I'm curious where you got yours.
If it makes it easier, look at AR vs AK GSP's (ie state GDP's).
"
Arkansas ranks No. 48 in new U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis estimates of states' per capita real gross domestic product."

"Its per-capita GSP for 2006 was $43,748,
fifth in the nation."

No, of course the state government does not drill for oil and gas, but it does oversee those private firms that do. The state also has to work closely with these firms to provide needed infrastructure improvements which make it possible for these companies to do their work. Palin has also spearheaded the construction of a very important new pipeline that will have tremendous significance--as much as the pipeline from the North Slope/Prudhoe Bay did when it was completed in the early 1970's. Obama has never had anything to do with a complex project like that nor has he ever worked with nuts and bolts industry like oil and gas, fishing, or anything else.
The people of Alaska are rugged individualists, the type who made this country great and they have made her "...the most popular governor in America, with an approval rating in the 90s, and probably the most popular public official in any state".

Personally, I trust the opinion of Alaskans far, far more than those of he South Side of Chicago human debris which elected Obama. She appeals to the producers and he appeals to the sponges of other people's labor and risk.
