I was thinking the same thing!! Looks like he might live to fight another day!lol

No, the shot pictured was not fatal. I suspect it stung pretty good. In accordance with this forum's gory photo request, you can not see his hind quarters. A 40gr V-max enema is not a pretty sight.

thanks to all that posted pic's and storys in this section this year ..I had a blast posting and reading your posts!

I hope we all get the chance to do it all again next year!

thanks again Jonathan

Yeah Jonathan,it was great reading the stories, and meeting some really good people. Next season can't get here soon enough.

I'll defenitely be posting up more pics/stories. Right now I'm going to concentrate on finding more land to hunt.

Til then, everybody take care and I hope you all have a safe holiday season.

Wull .... wull .... can I report one more?

I was out back on my sister's farm to take a couple of shots with the .30-06 to be sure the scope was still zeroed and foul the barrel in preperation for the opening day of deer season after thanksgiving. I set up a target and while I was getting ready to take a shot, I see this big 'ol groundhog feeding out into the field about 10 yards from where I'd set my target!

So I put the cross hairs on him from 100 yards away and by golly, the '06 was enough gun. He dropped right in his shadow. That makes the total 40 for 2011. I had a lot of fun getting out there and doing that. Anyway, here hs is:

I was concerned the bullet (150g Hornady SST pushed to 2996fps by 59.9g of H4350) would go right through with out expanding, and it pretty much did, but he didn't even wiggle. You can see the bullet exit in the picture.

The varmint rifles are all in the safe, bores cleaned, and put away for the winter, or I thought they were. Maybe I should think of the old '06 as a varmint rifle?

Anyway, want to thank you all for a fun summer hunting thread. Really enjoyed all the stories and pictures.

See ya next spring.

It ain't over, 'till it's over!! It's supposed to cool down for the next few days, but be back near the 70's the first of next week. Some of my beanfields are just getting cut. Piggies will suffer!

get em boys!! lol it has been a blast and I am so hooked on smaking them with lever actions and casting for them it is almost as fun as shooting them ....almost!! lol

Like I said, "it ain't over 'till it's over"! BRB and got up at o'dark thirty to meet and try to intercept some wild pigs that we'd been patterning for a little over a week.........BUT, they didn't show! For the past three days, you could almost set your watch by them.
After failure had been realized, we tucked our tails, gathered our gear, and headed to town for some brunch. Afterwards we did a ride through one of our favorite farms, and low and behold, out in the field about 250 yds., was a big fat groundhog! Never being one for packing light, I dug down through the day and night pig rifles, a deer rifle, pellet rifle, and down on the bottom was a VSSF in 220 swift!
After donning my blaze orange hat(deer season, gotta be legal, yannow!),while standing on the ground(staying legal!) I took a hasty rest across the hood.........

55 grain SBK. in one ear and out the other! That makes fifty one........so far for 2011. I don't think most of them have gone to sleep yet.....
