Anyone have a stoney point bipod??!!

I recently purchased a stoney point rapid pivot bipod from cabelas and I don't really understand the instructions, I have a left over piece and not sure where it goes! Also I can't get the darn thing to connect to the gun. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ben

I might have suggestions. But I'd need to know more. Like what model Rapid Pivot you have(yes, there are several), what piece you have left over, etc....

How about some pictures?

The pictures help. I've got several in different lengths that attach to a rifle in the same way. Damm good bi-pods.

The left over piece you show is new to me. Never had that come with any of my Stoney Points I own and don't see where it would be used in the system anywhere. I'd toss it in a drawer and forget about it.

As far as attaching to the rifle, push harder and it'll snap on. It is kinda tough the first few times. But it will go and you won't damage anything. And it will get easier after some use.

(the little ball thingamagiggers on the inverted Y yoke are adjustable, but they're touchy and I wouldn't fool with them unless you absolutely can't get it to snap in place)

I've had one of these Rapid Bipods for several years now.

The "trick" to getting them to "snap" on & off the sling stud adapter.......the bipod has to be almost exactly 90 degrees to the gun. Any variance & they are a P.I.T.A..

The leftover piece, (which on mine was actually already attached to the top of one of the legs), is for attaching a carrying sling to...so that you can just sling it over a shoulder while walking.

Good tip and so true.

I have read this same statement from several folks.^^^^^^^^

Evidently, I got a good set.

As I said previously, I've had mine for a several years, and prior to '09 I hunted a LOT.
(Since then, almost none due to health issues.)

I've not only used mine for their intended purpose, but also as a cane/walking stick, so I could leave my real cane in the truck.

From what I understand, the older ones (with black yoke & feet) like I have, are/were much better than the newer ones (with grey yoke).
I may be wrong, but I think I heard that the company changed ownership, & the parts aren't quite made of the same quality of materials.

I sure hope I got a good one...thanks again doggin coyotes (great guy to deal with, transaction went smooth and I got my bi pods in 2 days)

If thats the only problem with them, couldnt the legs be reattached? Seems like a relatively simple and quick fix, but again I am yet to open and play with mine.

Thanks for the pointers on installing them!

Tried to install my new Stoney Point Rapid Pivot Bipod yesterday and took me all of 10 minutes to break it! They are certainly fragile, as the aluminum tapered O-ring broke as I was trying to flip down the legs. Certainly my fault...but I truely did not apply much pressure.

Guess its back to the drawing board!

I'm sorry to hear that yours broke.

Maybe it's just me.
I have always telescoped the legs out before attaching the unit to the gun.
(I have taken a silver-colored Sharpie & placed a mark on the legs, where it normally is the correct height.)

Or, as I said before, maybe the newer versions just aren't as good of quality as my older one.

I think it needs pointed out here that the two bipods you guys are talking about, even though both are called *Stoney Point Rapid Pivot*, are much different in design.

The one chewie has is designed to attach to the rifle and stay attached and will fold up along the barrel or stock when not in the deployed mode. (kinda like a Harris or similar design)

The one canis has is designed to snap on to an adapter that is attached to the rifle. When not in use, it is un-snapped from the adapter piece and the bipod is carried separate.

Both designs share the same adjustable legs and the flexible rubber inverted Y that the legs attach to. And the inverted rubber Y ain't exactly the same on the two either.

I'm not picturing exactly what it is that broke? And I'm really sorry they broke. That sucks.
