I just got a sako rifle and I don't know much about them. It says on the barrel sako 223 vixen made in Finland L 461 borfors steel. The gun is in mint condition and has a really nice wood high gloss thumbhole stock. My question is does anyone know the year it was made sr number 1032xx And what it might be worth. And is the stock original? I have been doing a lot of looking and not having much luck. The gun was gifted to me and I'm a Remington. Guy so I don't know anything about sako Thanks for your info

Sometime after October 1969.
Value is dependant upon condition, caliber and what some dude is willing to pay on the day. The thumbhole stock is 99% chance an aftermarket add-on, therefore not mint.
Pop up some decent pictures of her and I could probably give you a bit of a decent appraisal.

I couldn't find one with a thumbhole like the one it has. So it led me to think it could be aftermarket. I will try to post some pics later. Any ideal how much a original stock would cost or if there are any around? I'm gonna swing into the local gun dealer to see what he thinks. Thanks for your inputs I know it's hard to give a value of what it's worth without seeing it.

A original Vixen stock will scare you IF you can find one. The last one I priced, was for a friend that dropped his out of a tower blind. $800

Wow any ideal as what the gun might be worth as is? Like I said earlier it's in good condition I know it's hard to do without seeing it I'm up for a rough ball guess.. I'm not gonna sell the gun bc is was a friends that passed. I'm just curious.

I paid $1100 for this one in .22ppc
It came with a set of rings, Redding competition dies and 400 pieces of brass.
I won't sell it ever.

Not to hijack the thread but I wonder if anyone would know the year my Sako Vixen L461 222 Rem was made? Serial # 665xx. I can't seem to find anything on it.

Thanks

I would say its worth around 8-900. Mint all originals go for around $1000, maybe a little more. They are great guns, and hold their value well.

Great guns, I have owned numerous models. They Vixen is one of the best they made. I went totally custom when Beretta began to import the rifles. I hate to tell you a custom with a jewel, causes the Sako's to stay in the safe.
