Anyone tried the Critter Sitter?

I hunt areas that usually require a bit of elevation above brush. When not standing, I often use my "dove bucket" to get this elevation (and carry gear), but have been reconsidering that and looking at other options. I bumped into the Mojo Critter Sitter tonight on APC's web page. Has anyone out there ever tried this? It looks like it might be a handy way to carry one's gear out to a stand and then offer a decent seat above the surrounding vegetation. Thoughts?

I hunt with two different guys who use the Critter Sitter. They both love it.

I tried it and it didn't float my boat but neither one of them will leave home without it.

I have had one for about 6 months. It works for me, been using it 2 or 3 times a week. I can carry everything I need in it, it is stable & sturdy. Comfortable on the back, shoulder straps are wide and don't slide off. It could be improved on. Wish it wasn't quite as wide while carrying on my back, have to be careful to keep the slung gun from clanking into it as I walk. After 3 months the straps that hold the backrest pulled out of where they attach to the top corners of the backrest. Didn't want the hassle of sending it in for warranty, fixed it myself, took 10 minutes to re-attach them with leather rivets, no issues with that since then. Zippers on storage compartments could stand to be higher quality. All said if I was looking for a stand seat, I would buy it knowing what I know now.

I havent used that one, but it looks nice. I use one of those tripod type stools and strap it to my pack like a bed roll. My buddy uses a regular fold up stool similar to that one and buckles it to his pack.

Getting up like that is almost a necessity in some of our areas.

Thanks guys. I'm interested in trying it, but for the short term (read PM hunt in Tucson) I may just switch over to my Eberlestock X1A1 with a dove seat strapped to it. I want to keep the elevation offered by my dove bucket, but lose the noisy, cumbersome bucket.

I stopped by the closest one & they were out of stock. There's another I may hit tomorrow after work.

FWIW, academy has started carrying reloading stuff. Very limited selection right now, but they do have some stuff on the shelf. This store even has a fair supply of a limited assortment of primers, but no smokeless powder yet. They confirmed that they will & it's been on back order for months, they just haven't gotten any in yet.

My wife wanted something to sit on while calling & she went to the store & tried the 3 legged stool, liked it. I figure they're so cheap, if it doesn't work well on an actual hunt, we're not out anything for trying it.

Been using a similar 1 for years. Works pretty good as long as you're not sitting on it for long periods of time.

I usually do 20 minutes or so on a stand & then move. I mostly stand / tall sticks, but with enough hunting I start getting a bit tired & like to mix up sitting for some stands. But I still like being more than 4 inches off the ground LOL

There's another academy here & I'll be close to it tomorrow any way, might as well stop & see if they have any.

Gander Mountain & Bass Pro both have variants & they all cost twice as much.

right now I'm not, I stand all the time.

The stool is about 16" tall. From the web site I can't tell how high the seat on those chairs are.

To whom is this directed? I usually sit on my dove bucket (70% of the time) or stand up (10% of the time). On a few stands out here I can use a lower-seated turkey chair.

I'm looking to find out how far the seat of the MOJO Critter Sitter is off the ground. I have a bad back and just had a knee replaced so getting up from the ground is very difficult.

What did you not like about it?

I have one and used it for almost a year. I don't any more. I'm still looking for that perfect seat and unable to find THE ONE. They are comfortable on level ground but not at all on uneven ground. As stated before they are wide making it difficult to sling your rifle over your shoulder without the two constantly making contact while you are walking. It is also long which makes crossing a fence impossible w/o first removing it, then strapping it back on. The strap adjusters are inferior. After awhile i just set the straps and tied knots in them where they couldn't move. They do have some good points though. The frame is quite sturdy. The seat height was very good for me. They are comfortable on even ground. You can rotate in them for a shot to the sides because of straps and not arms. The storage is OK. After time the negatives just overcame the positives for me and I quit using it.

This is the setup I have been using for some time;

Small draco assault pack that holds my bog pod centered and secure, I can reach over my shoulder and slide it out from the top easily...

It also centers in the center of the folded stool;

This critter thing has my interest, however it looks wider than what I am used to and the holder for the sticks don't look like it would hold them secure, quite nor balanced... Also I wonder how the straps would handle after extended use... In the past few years I have burned thru 2 of the Draco packs and am on my 3rd... After a year or 2 of use the straps tend to give out;

Hollow aluminum legs can also be noisy brushing up against thickets... 100 mph tap helps...

This critter thing does have a backrest..
