Anyone tried the Critter Sitter?

That looks compact and efficient. I've been blessed with living long enough that my body is beginning to argue with my mind and winning more frequently. I don't do as well sitting on the ground as I used to (never did do very well) and I need a backrest. I've tried a folding stool and can't make that work. I'm currently trying to get used to a kickstand vest and they are not too bad but it's amazing how much more visibility you have with that extra foot of elevation.

This is by far the sturdiest/most comfortable seat I've found but it has the acoustics of a base drum and it helps if you're part pack mule.

IMO the length, width and weight wasn't what I like. Works great on level ground and on stand but just a pain in the azz to carry or to climb with. Both my friends who use it are large frame guys and it works better for them than for me with a smaller frame.Originally Posted By: Infidel 762Originally Posted By: Yote Yoda USMCI hunt with two different guys who use the Critter Sitter. I tried it and it didn't float my boat but neither one of them will leave home without it.

What did you not like about it?

It does look wide... I don't see what it is about it that makes it weigh 13 pounds... One thing about what I have been using is that some sets it walk to I know I won't need the seat.. Easy and quieter going through thick stuff without the stool..

Yep...defn8ly.. Can make the difference between a bland and successful stand...

I may be wrong, but I don't think mine weighs that much.. It kind of sticks in my head the UPS label when I received it said 9 pounds. I get a chance I'll weigh it.

I ended up getting a lightweight swivel seat that I just happened upon in Sportsman's Warehouse. I can't find the exact one online, but it's real similar to this one. I'll give it a good workout next week in Tucson and report back.

Sorry Yote Yoda, been terribly busy with projects, trying to get as much hunting in as possible too. I'll get it weighed up this weekend and give you a post back

Well, I'll soon have my questions answered. Mojo Outdoors was very generous in their donations to Predator Masters for this year's convention in Tucson. Amongst all the goodies they donated were about 8 or 10 Critter Sitters, one of which I lucked out and won in the general raffle. Assuming I get the chance in the next few weeks to do a bit more calling before I call it quits for the year, I'll post back with my thoughts on the chair. My first impressions just sitting on it in the house are positive.

Congrats on the raffle win. Would love to hear your thoughts on the Critter Sitter.

I use this day pack/stool combo: http://txfowlers.com/BERETTA_HUNITNG_PACK_STOOL_BST6014377.asp

No back, I would love a back but... The Berretta stool is supposed to weigh 3.45lbs and it is clearly narrower than the Critter Stool. I stick my shooting sticks in the main compartment opposite the side I sling my rifle on. My rifle and the frame rarely come together, but I am a broad guy. The pack has more than enough room for all of my stuff.

Excellent zippers and generally excellent quality. I had to attach the stool frame to the pack and straps, it was a pita before I attached them, maybe they were supposed to be attached, but when I got it, it was an open box display item. There is a decent waist belt for carrying heavier loads or to stop it from moving on your back. Rarely use that though.

I found this one looking for a photo of mine: http://www.amazon.com/Backpack-Stool-Combo-Olive-Drab/dp/B0002X8IV8

If you scroll down you will see a couple of similar, or maybe the same stools. These don't seem to have the quality of the Berretta I have, but would probably do the trick.

I might look at the Critter Sitter... would love to have a back... Give my son the Berretta...

Yeah yote, it's a little heavy. But at 6'4" and 300 it's very comfortable and sturdy. The last few years we were in a drought and the grass was very short so I sat with a stadium style seat. But drought broke last year and now our pasture grass is back to normal, so the extra height provided by the seat is a must.

I bought a little 3 legged stool at Costco for less than $30 and they still have them. It's 300 lb rated and feels like it weighs half of what my magnum blind chair does. I've used it a couple of mornings and it's the best I've used for me.

Okay, I finally took the critter sitter out for a test drive. Here's a brief pictorial review.

Pro #1 - very comfortable. I could sit a stand for a long time in this. I find the height just perfect for me (I'm 5'10"). I was worried that the steel frame would cut circulation off to the legs, which might be a concern for someone shorter. The fold-down back is attached with sturdy adjustment straps and offers real good back support.

Pro #2 - Though heavy, it's set up with fairly wide and sturdy carry straps that turn it into a pack that also carries your gear. There are several pockets - a large one in the rear for an ecaller other larger gear, a couple up front for gloves, face mask, hand calls, etc., and a couple mesh pockets on the side to facilitate losing those calls. The front and side pockets are accessible while seated.

Con #1 - not Shockwave sized. As you can see, the zippered opening for the large rear pocket is just a bit too small for a Shockwave with attached FoxJack. It squeezes in, but requires a bit of wiggling. It would be perfect for one of the smaller ecallers.

However, once in the pocket, there's plenty of room and it carries very nicely.

Con #2 - the metal frame is, as you would expect, noisy. It clunks against slung guns and itself when setting up. I think this can be minimized with the judicious application of camo 100-mph tape. I'll turn my daughter loose on it this weekend to see what she can come up with.

Con #3 - as you can see above, the provided "holster" for shooting sticks is too shallow for my preferred Primos Trigger Sticks. Not a big deal, as they don't try to escape. It does put them at a level above my head, which I don't like for walking into a stand. Another foot on the holster would be perfect. I consider this a minor gripe that I may attempt to fix on my own. My wife can sew...

Overall, I think it's a good addition to my calling gear. Once I get the hang of setting it up more quietly, I think it will add greatly to my comfort on stand, increasing the likelihood that I'll stick it out longer, particularly later in the year when response times can be slower. For my type of calling and setups, it's a pretty good match. For run-and-gun competition style calling, I'd leave it at home and go with a trusty butt pad for speed.

Questions? Feel free to fire away.

I'm still using mine, liked it so well I even ordered a second one for future use in case they discontinue it.
I didn't like the noise the hollow tubing made either, brush scraping against it while you try to sneak in drove me nuts. So, I drilled 4 small holes and filled the tubes with spray foam, worked great. I generally carry an AR on a single point up front, so I didn't really have clanging mentioned in other posts.
I also pop riveted a saddle scabbard to carry my shotgun, or bolt gun occasionally.
