Okay, I finally took the critter sitter out for a test drive. Here's a brief pictorial review.
Pro #1 - very comfortable. I could sit a stand for a long time in this. I find the height just perfect for me (I'm 5'10"). I was worried that the steel frame would cut circulation off to the legs, which might be a concern for someone shorter. The fold-down back is attached with sturdy adjustment straps and offers real good back support.
Pro #2 - Though heavy, it's set up with fairly wide and sturdy carry straps that turn it into a pack that also carries your gear. There are several pockets - a large one in the rear for an ecaller other larger gear, a couple up front for gloves, face mask, hand calls, etc., and a couple mesh pockets on the side to facilitate losing those calls. The front and side pockets are accessible while seated.
Con #1 - not Shockwave sized. As you can see, the zippered opening for the large rear pocket is just a bit too small for a Shockwave with attached FoxJack. It squeezes in, but requires a bit of wiggling. It would be perfect for one of the smaller ecallers.
However, once in the pocket, there's plenty of room and it carries very nicely.
Con #2 - the metal frame is, as you would expect, noisy. It clunks against slung guns and itself when setting up. I think this can be minimized with the judicious application of camo 100-mph tape. I'll turn my daughter loose on it this weekend to see what she can come up with.
Con #3 - as you can see above, the provided "holster" for shooting sticks is too shallow for my preferred Primos Trigger Sticks. Not a big deal, as they don't try to escape. It does put them at a level above my head, which I don't like for walking into a stand. Another foot on the holster would be perfect. I consider this a minor gripe that I may attempt to fix on my own. My wife can sew...
Overall, I think it's a good addition to my calling gear. Once I get the hang of setting it up more quietly, I think it will add greatly to my comfort on stand, increasing the likelihood that I'll stick it out longer, particularly later in the year when response times can be slower. For my type of calling and setups, it's a pretty good match. For run-and-gun competition style calling, I'd leave it at home and go with a trusty butt pad for speed.
