Anyone use a pelican gun case for scoped AR?

Looking to buy a nice gun case to do air travel with my scoped AR15. I have a 20" RRA predator pursuit wearing a Leupold Mark AR scope. I really like the looks of the Pelican cases, from what I can tell them make specific foam cutouts for iron sighted AR15 / M4 but I don't see anything for scoped ARs. Anyone have any recommendations?

FYI, the gun in question. Would be nice if I had a case that could squeeze in my little Beretta Neos .22LR pistol as well.

Oh yes,
Pelican makes great cases, and you can customize the foam to fit your weapon, I have two 1750 Pelicans one black one tan, one cut for my Armalite Super SASS, the other for a couple bolt rifles, I also have a 1700 that came with my MK11 MOD 0 as well as a tan 1500 for my HD camera, Vector, and Nomad ... also have a couple pelican TSA locks... top of the line protection IMHO.
 
I have a full size one for my deer rifles.... very sturdy and great protection for firearms.

Mine came with solid pieces of foam.... I layed my desired weapon on top of the middle layer and traced around it with a black Sharpie. Then took a sharp knife and razor blade and cut the shape out. Rifle fit in very nice.... Made a few extra cuts for a couple of boxes of ammo and bipod.

I think you can purchase extra pieces of foam for using differnt firearms in the same case. Just make your cuts in the same way and your ready to go.
 
Like Skinney, I have the 1750 for my RRA A4 varmint 24". Bought it to fly my AR from VA to NM to hunt with Tony Tebbe. It took a lickin' at the airports, but everything came out fine. The baggage handlers in Richmond even tried to break into it to no avail. Here's my layout for the trip. Two scopes, two mags, 200rnds ammo, sling, bipod, monopod, windmeter, range finder, wheeler fat wrench, brass catcher, dope chart.

Ain't that the truth. I used mine as a hand cart for the rest of my luggage at the airport from the car to the check in. I can't imagine what it would've been like without the sturdy wheels they put on them.

I saw that MidwayUSA has them on sale for $185. I own two of them. They do the job. I am shopping for number three. If my new rifle ever gets here.

One thing I did when I started my cutout was to arrange everything on top of the foam the way I wanted, except in a mirror image. I traced everything with a sharpie as close as possible. When I cut, I cut on the inside of the Sharpie lines with a sharp exacto knife. I found the blade too short to go all the way through the foam, so I followed up the initial outline cuts with a sharp filet knife to get all the way through the foam. When I was done, I flipped the insert over and there were nice clean cut lines and no pen marks to be seen. All my stuff is very tight to the foam and the objects are squeeze fit.
 
Have one Pelican 1750 case and just ordered another and should have it on Monday. Plan on buying a third one in another month. Can't go wrong with a Pelican! It also helps that I can get the urethane foam for free

Do a google search. All kinds of ways from the simple to making a hot wire.

I own one as well, top of the line IMO but they charge plenty for extra foam if needed

If you are using TSA access locks I would suggest you get something else. The only person that should have access to your weapons is YOU.
You are required to be available to open your weapon case for inspection if requested by TSA after checking them for a flight.

After the inspection (if requested) you relock your weapon case and nobody else will be able to access your weapons after......including any TSA personnel.
I would not want any TSA personnel to be able to open my weapon case without my presence.

I lock mine with 4 same key locks I bought as a set at Home Depot.

Yes. I have one. Trace out gun or items with chalk. Buy a hot wire foam cutter if you want a clean, professional looking job. If not go at it with a electric turkey knife. Hot wire is the best way and way I did mine

I've done both of these techniques, and they both have advantages and disadvantages. The hot wire foam cutter (available at hobby shops that sell remote control airplanes, trucks, etc.) is pretty slick. The trick there is keeping the wire perpendicular to the foam surface. If you can't manage that you obviously get angled cuts -- this is not a big problem as you could leave a full 1/4 or 1/2 inch of space all the way around and the rifle would be very secure (being sandwiched by two other foam pieces).

The electric knife is probably faster than the foam cutter. However it can leave flaps of slices as you come back around to finish the cut out.

Finally, keep your cut outs. You can re-insert them and swap that "full" foam piece with one of the others (which can then be customized for a different gun). I can't recall where I saw that tip, but it is pretty slick. You could have one case and 3 custom cutouts.
