are you from Missouri

I grew up in Marceline, hunted Chariton and Macon counties when growing up there, I live in KY now, but travel back there for deer season every year. Few coyotes lately, but lots of bobcats in that area now. we used to murder the coyotes there but the mange got bad.

No pictures... it was on my mind, but to many things to take care of with the family to get back out before the snow melted. I looked at the information on the bear-tracker.com website and I'm sure they were lion tracks. The guy I was with also did some checking and feels the same way. The measurements were made with a tape measure, not estimates.

It seems like everyone I talked to in this area (phelps & crawford county) that hunts or spends time in the outdoors has A mountian lion story, I found out recently that a local guy had one of a pair he had escape about 4 years ago close to where I found the tracks.

I'm going to start taking my digital camera and atleast keep it in the truck in case I find more sign. I found a cedar tree about a foot in diameter with one side of it scratched up and down about 7ft at the highest point, not sure if it was a Bear, Mountain lion, or ?.

I could fill up a lot of space with the mountain lion stories I hear around here in a month, but I 'm sure half the readers think I'm BSing already.

My dad and I have a 550acre lease off of K hwy the runs North of Hwy 54. I would like to also get the boat out and start hunting the conservation land around the rivers and lakes.

Usually just me and my Dad, if you wanted to get together on some Coyotes let me know. I just bought a light for my gun and a wheat light, going to try them out this weekend around Rolla and probably down in St. Clair County Feb 28 & 29.

Scout22, you're right in my bailiwick. I killed my first deer ever (A 158" class 15 pt., with the pictures to prove it) on some land bordering the prairie ground off of K hwy. I still hunt out there some. I've done a little hunting out of a boat, and I hunt lots of Conservation areas around Roscoe, Osceola, Gerster, and Lowry City. I also have scattered permission all over St. clair county. Don't generally have much trouble finding somewhere to hunt. Unfortunately I'm in tulsa until my spring break. But if you're around the 13th or 20th of march let me know, maybe we can do some hunting, if I'm not tearing up the walleye.

I don’t think I will be in town the dates you posted, but plans could change. I will be in the area Feb. 28-29 and March 27 – April 2.

If not maybe we could get together and just do a little shooting or fishing sometime.

I hunt in the Santa Fe area,south of Mark Twain Lake in Monroe County. Coyote's almost all year rd. an crow's in season.

I am from AZ but soon to be living in MO, or maybe NW-Ncentral AR right on the border.
When my wife and I make it there in April 13th we will be looking for some land to live on.
Any areas out by SW & SCentral Mo I should stay away from or watch out for?
I want some good land for bowhunting and watch wildlife.
Any help would be appreciated.

Man, I've got to get back to Missouri. Alot of good hunting in that state and one of the best state conservation programs in the US. I grew up in Marshall in Saline County. Went to college in Rolla. I've been to many of the towns you mentioned. Played HS football in some of them...Sedalia, Jeff City, Mexico, Hannibal, Kirksville. Living in Texas now and getting used to hunting wild hogs in the offseason and monster bucks (for a price, of course).

I still tell people over business conversations when I'm not convinced about something that "I'm from Missouri on this issue" ...in other words, Show Me.
 
Now from reading all these posts, I betcha there is enough folks posting hear to start a Missouri Chapter of Predator Hunting.

I have hunted all over Missouri in the last 40 years give or take. I am located not far from a place called Boonville Missouri and have some other properties in the state as well.

It would be nice if we could All get together and discuss hunting tactics and just chew the fat so ta speak. Getting together as a group is NOT like having to drive clear to the other side of the Rockie mountains, what do you folks think?
 
If and when I finally move to MO, I'll keep in touch for I will need all the help I can get to find where to hunt and how in MO.

I can offer any of my knowledge to anyone that cares and return the favor down the road.

BTW, yes a MO hunt chat section would be nice.
 
Madman....Missouri has some of the best hunting land in the USA bare none. We have a lot of forest hardwood land for the public to hunt on, NOT like TEXAS or some of the other so called great hunting states. We have 2 of the top 5 bass fishing lakes in the world. The number 2 trout fishing stream in the world. Not to mention the Ozark Hill for Turkey Hunting....It don't get no better I tell ya. We are NO-1 in Wild Turkey, 3rd or 4th in whitetail deer. Only hunting them on public ground is not going to cost you an arm and a leg. We have wild bore also, if you like to hike through those hardwoods in search of the critters. Sometimes it is a tuff job!

Now for predators and varmints, we have always had plenty to go around for everybody. I been to a lot of places in my almost 60 years, but trust me on this one hear, Missouri is a hard place to beat for hunting and for low housing costs and other family expenses. Yall just give us a shout when you arrive and some of us Hill Billy's will hook you up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks for the welcome.
I have been to MO a few times for pleasure and work and that's why I'm coming there to LIVE!
My wife has friends around springfield and I enjoy the woods in the central part of the state.
Coming in may to look at land and homes to see what we can afford.
Then I will look for a job. Part-time at best so it doesn't interfere with my hunting and fishing.
Love that stockton lake! Very big bass and walleye there!

MADMAN......There is a lot of land for sale out on Hwy 60 going east. If you like the country and don't have to drive everyday to Sprindfield then your in Luck my friend. Housing in those smaller towns is more to what a working man can afford.
Forget about anything in the Springfield area as far as housing goes.....It has taken a BOOM just like the Branson area and things are high as mountains money wise. Bolivar is another "high" dollar area for housing, that is were Southwest Baptist College is located.

Stockton is a very good area and laid back too!
I myself am looking for just 80 acres some 40 or 50 minutes out of Sprinfield with NO house on it or buildings. I will build my own once again, last time too.

Good luck hunting for your spot in Missouri, there are a lot of em, so don't get discouraged if you don't find what your looking for in the first couple of weeks understand.
