Is it just me, or is it odd that all 3 of the mac supporters are new members from IL and all registered within the past few days?

Mac, I understand your frustration, if in fact this story really happened. However, your manner of telling it, just reaks so much of anomosity towards law enforcement, that one can't help but question your underlying motive. Case in point, you cite all of these "examples" of bad cops that you know about, and not a one has any bearing at all on your original story. Am I the only one that was thinking [beeep] has that got to do with anything?
I too have been known to have a "bad a$$ streak", and while age certainly hasn't exactly made me "grow out" of it, it has resulted in an ability to control it. It's one thing to direct one's wrath against someone intent to do you harm, or to protect your lady or personal property, but to do so against an officer of the law, who was only performing the duties as he was hired to do, is just plain childish. The melodramatics of an officer infringing on your rights to provide for your family, by pointing a gun at YOU, just further points to a level of immaturity that you may, or may not grow out of. In my small hometown area of upstate NY, a neighboring town of 50k and a small burb of 15k, had two officers shot and killed in the line of duty during the last year I lived there. Both left behind wives and small children. How is it, that in your world, you view your "right" to not be inconvienenced, as being more important to the rights of those two officers to have been able to have gone home after their shifts? Maybe I just do live in a bubble as I fail to see how your right to "not be bothered" by an officer's investigating a suspicious incident could even approach the rights of those two young wives and several kids that had been expecting to have their dads and husbands around for a few more years.

Weasel is right. Stop breaking the officers' balls. Ever thought about what they are thinking or what they have to deal with?

What Are Policemen Made Of? By Paul Harvey

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't credit me with the mongrel prose: it has many parents-at least 420,000 of them: Policemen.

A Policeman is a composite of what all men are, mingling of a saint and sinner, dust and deity.

Gulled statistics wave the fan over the stinkers, underscore instances of dishonesty and brutality because they are "new". What they really mean is that they are exceptional, unusual, not commonplace.

Buried under the frost is the fact: Less than one-half of one percent of policemen misfit the uniform. That's a better average than you'd find among clergy!

What is a policeman made of? He, of all men, is once the most needed and the most unwanted. He's a strangely nameless creature who is "sir" to his face and "fuzz" to his back

He must be such a diplomat that he can settle differences between individuals so that each will think he won.

But...If the policeman is neat, he's conceited; if he's careless, he's a bum. If he's pleasant, he's flirting;if not, he's a grouch.

He must make an instant decision which would require months for a lawyer to make.

But...If he hurries, he's careless; if he's deliberate, he's lazy. He must be first to an accident and infallible with his diagnosis. He must be able to start breathing, stop bleeding, tie splints and, above all, be sure the victim goes home without a limp. Or expect to be sued.

The police officer must know every gun, draw on the run, and hit where it doesn't hurt.He must be able to whip two men twice his size and half his age without damaging his uniform and without being "brutal". If you hit him, he's a coward. If he hits you, he's a bully.

A policeman must know everything-and not tell. He must know where all the sin is and not partake.

A policeman must, from a single strand of hair, be able to describe the crime, the weapon and the criminal- and tell you where the criminal is hiding.

But...If he catches the criminal, he's lucky; if he doesn't, he's a dunce. If he gets promoted, he has political pull; if he doesn't, he's a dullard. The policeman must chase a bum lead to a dead-end, stake out ten nights to tag one witness who saw it happen-but refused to remember.

The policeman must be a minister, a social worker, a diplomat, a tough guy and a gentleman.

And, of course, he'd have to be genius....For he will have to feed a family on a policeman's salary.

I understand that you are pissed. I also have called down to sprinfield and been told that there is no need to call DNR when night hunting and not to bother. But I think your sister didn't help the situation and elevated your frustration. I just think that you might want to give the rookie a break.

You should try being Hovered on at 50yds by a helicopter with a really bright light and talking on the loud speaker. Now that's a good time.

Ha...I can relate...had 2 black hawks come in and hover, not 50 yards but about 500, pin point my location and take off. Last time I ever call 911 about what I thought was a gas main break near Ft. Hood! They GPS traked my phone /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif!

And the GPS tracking was turned off /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif!
My phones screen said "no calls; GPS Tracking in Progress" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Mac, this is your quote.....
"It seems to me to many people dont have the cojones to stand up for themselves when looking at a badge."

It seems to me you have a problem with authority.
I put 30 yrs as a Pennsylvania State Trooper and you couldn't do one day in my shoes. I'm tired of this guy getting all this ink about his whining. I wish the Moderator would just delete this entire post. You sound like your 8 instead of 28. That is all I'm going to say about that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

Sometimes Mods leave this crap as documentation of a person's character. I'm not saying that is the case here, but sometimes it pays to give a guy enough rope. At least everybody can see what kind of individual we are dealing with.

Man this is an interesting thread.

Cops are bullies with too much power which they abuse.....

My sister is ... not very understanding and helpful.....

Making a phone call is succumbing to big brother.......

It's our right to do XYZ, that's enough we shouldn't have to do anything further........

Blah, blah blah.....

For cripes sike. It's only a couple of stands. The d*mn coyotes aren't going to move to the next state. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I'd bet that just about every hunter has had the perfect set-up blown by something.

This is laughable at best and very sad at the least. We're all grown men. Look at ourselves, it's no wonder our society is going in the direction it is. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Most of the time you get what you give. Turning the other cheek and moving on, forgiving the other's errors and taking the higher road pays dividends.

I'm not the preachy type, but at times like this we could all use a little whatever the heck you choose to call it.

Good hunting to everyone and remember about the only Right you truly have is living and just about everything else is a privilege. Don't abuse either.................

Tried to bring up the first line about new members in Illinois statement, I dont know what I am doing, anyway I just want to clarify that I do not support what Mac said just wanted to throw my two cents in about the pointing of the gun remark and that there are those of us who do not take that action lightly thats all! Dont lopp us all in one basket here. Besides our attitude towards any type of government authority probally has to do with the fact that we live in Illinois where the government makes everything their business if you know what I mean! Just frustration thats all.

Rueben,
Didn't mean to seem to single you out, just pointing out a coincedence is all. I agree with you that the land of Lincoln has their share of problems. You may have some of the best whitetail hunting in the coutry there, and I've mounted some real bruisers from IL over the years, but the whole no "carry permits" would be enough to deter me from settling there.
I still think that if you're put in a situation where an officer has drawn his sidearm on you, it's one of three things....
1. You've been caught in the act of committing a felony
2. You've been mistakenly identified as a felony suspect
3. Your attitude has given the officer reason to belive that you could be a threat to him

I've been pulled over a few times in my 48 years, even once at a roadblock that had troopers looking for 3 escaped convicts (with us 3 in the car grubby from a week of back country camping in the adirondacks) and I've had officers pull a weapon on me exactly 0 times. Maybe I've just been lucky. Then again, maybe I was mature enough to not provoke these minor inconvienences into escalating into something they didn't need to be, by suddenly developing a pi$$ poor attitude. Just sayin !

I know I should just let this die!!! Can I ask you all something? How many of you that are all up in arms against Mac and his no gun pulling policy have ever been at that business end of a muzzle? And if so how did it make you feel that your life was actually, at that moment in time in the hands of someone else?

Deerstabber I been there(several times), and I can tell you the business end of a pistol looks as big as a 55 gallon drum from the receiptant end and a shotgun barrel is like looking up a silo! I'm not one who is prone to getting excited or scared but at these times I was real interested in a peaceful resolution!

The point I personally was trying to get across to Mac was that many time an officer has been dispatched to something that is preceived be dangers and until he knows different. I personally beleive he has every right to protect himself even if that means pointing a gun at me. Now once it is derermined I'm not a threat then I would expect him to explain why he pulled the gun. Would I be mad at him, nope, I would use that opertunity to make him my friend.

I have worked in public service for over 25 years, not as a LEO, and I can tell you it is a circus!

I can tell you with no hesitation that anyone who does not respect anyone who is pointing a gun at them is a fool! By respect I don't mean you admire them but you realize that this point in life you are not at an advantage

I understood your point Tarry. If I were a police officer I gaurantee, without a shadow of a doubt, I would do everything in my power to gaurantee I was going home to see my wife and children at the end of the day.

One other thing I realized just the other day the moderator for this part of the forum is "Randy Watson". Dude are you in the band "Sexual Chocolate"? hahaha Sorry man just had to ask. Oh, Remember Randy "The children are our future". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
