Arizona Hunters Beware

Jeez! I've never been a fan of bees, wasps, you know, anything really that can sting/bite me.

Today, me and dad were looking at an old truck we have thats been parked for over a year. While we were leanin on the tailgate we heard a lot of buzzing, as soon as we realized they were IN the tailgate we vacated the area pretty quick. After readin this thread, i'm thinkin we'll wait for a frost before takin parts off the truck.

Rocky1 It was not the least uncommon when stung by those bees to see them sitting on their little stinger said:
As younguns on the farm we were told to hold our breath as the bees honed in on the exhailed air. It kept them out of our mouths, but didn't prevent stings unles you could run like the wind without breathing!!!

Thanks Rocky

Eventually there would be none or very little of that killer bee dna left in them after awhile, I would imagine.

I'm talikng about ones that did make it up north

Over time yes, but it can take several generations to breed the aggressive traits out of the colony. Couple that with the fact that a queen bee can live several years, and you have an ongoing problem for 5 - 6 years Rob. Oddly enough the true salvation in respect to killer bees, are the pests and diseases that plague the industry. They affect killer bees as well, and untreated will in time decimate feral bee colonies over a given area.

I sure dont want to find out what a swarm of african bees feels like.

First line of relief is an antihistamine... Benadryl is best, if you don't have that any antihystamine.

For topical relief... Hydrocortisone creams. Baking Soda pastes. Ice packs. Making a paste with meat tenderizer is also supposed to work. If possible elevate the affected area, (although I realize it isn't possible in this case), and try not to scratch or rub it as much as it itches. Itching is a result of the skin stretching in area swollen, scratching or rubbing compounds blood flow to the area, and increases swelling. Any of the paste remedies coupled with the Bendadryl, the pain will subside fairly quickly, and swelling should go down over a few hours.
