Ok, started not to post incase this doesn’t have a good outcome, but to be transparent, I figured I’d take y’all along through the process.
This was the first suppressor I bought and it’s been great “to me.” I say that because I don’t have anything to compare it to. This particular suppressor has been swapped between the Ruger SFAR and my Gen II daytime rifle. Both are .308 caliber.
Yesterday I was putting some guns back in the safe and I have to remove the suppressor due to how I have my safe configured.
I always inspect my suppressors when removing them and this one made a noise when I shook it! I knew I hadn’t had a baffle strike because I’ve hit everything I’ve recently used it on. I looked it over and then took it apart.
The baffles didn’t “fall” out so I got the removal tool and pushed them out. Nothing really out of the ordinary, but after they were out I noticed one of the baffle “locks” was bent.
Here’s a pic of what it should look like…
Here’s what this one looks like…
I “filed” it down a little until it could be reinserted with ease and called myself looking everything else over. I reassembled and shook again and still had the “rattle.”
I disassembled it again and got a light to look down the tube and saw the issue. Along with the baffles is a piece that not a baffle but goes in first when assembling. This part is known to stick and they pretty much tell you it will get stuck in the tube and not worry about it. Well this piece is broke along the top edge where the baffles lock into it.
Look at the circled part…
So now I know the issue and gave Silencer Central a call today. I explained what I’d found and even gave them the serial number of the suppressor. They told me no issues and they’d send an email while we were talking that would have a return label and a warranty form to fill out. They verified my address while I checked the email. I had the email and he told me to wrap my suppressor up tight and fill out the form and send it in.
So I now have everything boxed up and will drop it off to UPS tomorrow and we’ll see how long it takes and what they do.
