I am looking for a cheaper scope for a back up gun, I don't want to spend $500.00 and looked at a BARSKA SWAT EXTREME 6-24X44IR. I can get the scope for $200.00 anyone have anything good / bad to say about it??? Is anyone using a BARSKA scope? Here is a link to the scope http://www.barska.com/swat.html Thanks

Barska scopes are not very good at all. If your on a budget, look at Nikko Stirling, I've heard good things about them. You could pick up a used Bushnell 5-15 3200 for $250 if you looked hard enough.

I don't know anything about the Barska's, but I've had some experience with Cabela's Pine ridge scopes and they seem to be very good for what Cabela's sells them for. Not only that, but Cabela's warrentee is just excellent. You might check them out at Cabela's online to see if they have one in the power range your looking for.

Only thing I have owned with the name Barska on it was a pair of bino's and they suck...still do. I have them thrown in the truck "in case of emergency." For $200.00 there are better options out there. A Bushnell Banner, Simmons Aetec, and you can even get a Leo Rifleman for that. Check out www.swfa.com or www.riflescopes.com

Some people over on Rimfire Central seem to like the Barska Swat scopes and give them high ratings. I bought one of the Barska 17 scopes for my Savage .17HMR. The scope looked good and the glass was very clear, I could see the tiny bullet holes at 100 yards without a spotting scope. However, paralax was awful. Just a slight movement of your head would send the shots 2" from the last hole. I burned through two boxes of ammo trying to get that thing centered nefore I gave up and sent it back. Went with the Bushnell Banner .17 scope, got it zeroed in no problem and have not had a problem since. I wanted to give one of the Barska swat scopes a try, but was gunshy after the one I got.

Got no complaints about my 4-12 X 50 IR on my .243 - nice light, great view.

Got it sighted in and have sent well over 150 pills downrange with it over the last year with no change in POI, no loosening, no image probs. If it's your price range, I wouldn't hesitate on getting a barska. I think I paid $100.

I also was wondering about the Barska scopes. I was just too chicken to find out... I've got two BSA scopes on two of my rifles and so far I have no complaints. I just put a 6-24x42 BSA on my .223 and it seems to be ok so far. Cabelas sells them for about $119.00. I also put a 3-9x40 on my .270 and never had a problem with that one. Just my opinion (so far).

Stay away from Barska and like the plague.
In your price range I would suggest something from vortex they are not the best quality but are worlds above Barska. Like most folks we want to get our kit for as little money as we can reasonably get away with. Optics is one of those things where you get what you pay for. I am by no means saying you have to spend you life savings on a rifle scope but you can do much better than Barska.

Nikko Sterling on the other hand you have to be careful which model you get. Some of them are made in Japan and some are made in China. The ones that are made in Japan are supposed to be desent for the money they charge. The ones made in China are complete Junk.

For your $200 you could get a new, Nikon Buckmaster 3x9

For your $200 plus $ 59 you could get a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5x14 40

For $200 plus $55 you could get a Bushnell 4200 Elite 3x9

Or a 5x15 40 3200 Elite for your $200 plus $73.

I have the 4200 3x9 and if I had the money I’d get another if they are still around and I also have the 4.5x 14, Buckmaster, also a pretty good scope for the money. My point is why not save a little longer spend a tiny bit more and at least get something with a good company behind it.

(Prices were all taken from the Optics Zone website)

mueller has some fine scopes in that range.....not a big fan of barska...Ihave owned them, and no longer do or ever will again. The replies to your post have given very good advice. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
