BARSKA SCOPE ???

had a barska scope once...biggest piece of crap ever. would have been better off going to walmart and buying the $29 3x9 Tasco than spending $80 on the barska. very fuzzy and would not hold zero on a .270

A friend has a 3.5-10x40 SWAT 30mm MilDot Illuminated Barska .. It is a very good scope .about 150 $ from Midway . The rings that come with it are kind of odd , I watched him shoot a square with it and the turrets were almost perfect Came back to within less than 1/2" and the error could have been the shooter or rifle ... The illumination works great and it can be turned down so it doesn,t overpower the view ... I like the etched reticle ... I liked everything about it ..... You probably wouldn,t want to do the drop test with it , but it,s nitrogen filled so thats a big plus ... .... I plan on buying one ..

I saw where Barska is marketing a "Benchmark" scope that is a straight 40X. You would think it was geared toward the BR shooters but it has a mil-dot reticle instead of the FCH type reticle.

If it were any cheaper, I'd like to buy one for a prank and show it off to some range buddies.

my experience with scope has been this go to a gun shop lokk thru them listen to other people testimonies and then sind some with a scope you are considering look thru it on a gun fire a gun using it and deside if it is best for you i my self have a baska scope on my 17 hrm and love it there are pretty much like "your taste in food you like what you like a nd hate what you dont like" but cabelas basspro gander mtn any gun shop and a favorite place of mine to shop centerfiresystems.com will have a wide variety of scopes but go with what you feel comfortable with But jus and opinon like or hate it thanks for your time

They are ok if your not planning killing anything. I had a 6.5-20x50 and it was crap. clarity was awful , and couldn't hold a zero even if you painted one on it. I'd spend the money on a higher quality scope if I were you. Can get a Bushnell elite 3200 for $239 or a 4200 for $250 . I have one of each and they are awsome scopes.

Bought my son one for X christmas for his .243. Sighting it in was like play chase. The thing just didnt hold a zero at all. It would group 2 or three shots then jump 2"'s and shoot 2 or 3 more there. Clarity was also not that great.......skip the Barska. For an inexpensive one BassPro make some that are 5 times better and only a few bucks more.

I've had a Barska Varmint 6-20x50 for a couple of years now. I was using it on my Ruger 10/22 and now I use it on my Stevens Model 200. It has worked well for me. I have a few couple thousand rounds through my ruger and probably 100 rounds or so through my Stevens .223.

It's not the best scope ever, but I think I paid $40 for it at the time. It has served it's purpose. Clarity is OK, I don't have problems punching holes in 1 inch dots at 50 yards that's for sure. Haven't played with it on my .223 at 100 yards yet.

If you can get a great deal on a Barska then it's not bad. I don't know if I'd pay full price for it though. It's a fine sub $50 scope though. If you have the money get something better. I've heard great things about Sightron or even better something like a Nikon.

I have owned Tasco, Burris, Leopold, bushnell and Simmons. How would I rate them: price to function(ruggedness, clarity, parallax, eye relief and at what it cost)

from 1 the most desireable to 5 the least desireable

1. simmons @200 bucks
2. tasco @100
3. leopold @600
4. burris @400
5. bushnell @400

The simmons aetec is my first choice.

My 12 year old Son put a 3X9X42 Simmons on his 22 caliber Benjamin Air Gun and he is pretty happy with it.

Think about it 12 years old beating around an Air gun.

Benjamin that must be pumped 5X or more for each shot.

This is off Subject but the 22 Benjamin is pretty hard on Cats that just need to be scared off. A good hit guarantees that won't be back.

I actually found a Barska binocular out in the woods. They weren't great but they did work. After a year or so I got out to look at a area and the field was 'black'. Just like a battery went dead on a range finder. Of course they had no battery. So I left them on a stump at the turn around, I can't imagine what the person that found them thought. That didn't do much for my confidence in Barska.

I bought a brand new Winchester .30-06 that came with a Simmons 3x9x40. Took about 100 rounds befor the scope took a crap. You couldn't adjust it anymore, turn the turrets all you want with no POI change.

Nikon is the way to go.
