best all around cailber???????

Any thing based on the 30/06.
30/06, 280 remington, 270 winchester, 25/06 remington, 308 winchester, 7mm-08 remington, 260 remington, 243winchester,
If you wanted a wild cat how about a 6mm-06 or a 6.5mm-06.

I prefer Ford but others like Chevy, Dodge or Datsun. In today's market go with whoever offers the best financing.

I'd say the 243 or 25-06, as recommended, are good for you. I'd rather have the 25-06 as a minimum up here as our deer are probably bigger than those in TN. I have a hunting buddy's friend who was shooting at a mule deer at about 250yds with his 243 and it took him a few shots to get it to fall. I wasn't impressed with what the bullets did on it at that distnace upon close inspection. Shot placement was a part of it too, but I wasn't impressed.

If I had to keep one, I'll keep my .270 around here, thank you. One gets so boring!!!
 
sorry for the delay of me not being on here thanks some good choices ,,, i was watching a predotor calling video and they was shooting yotes with 30-06 and 7mm-08 now the 7mm-08 did some damage but not really bad ,,,, how easy are there 25-06 to reload

Seriously though... it ain't any different than loading for any other caliber... it's just cooler, that's all.
 
Many good calibers but 223, 243, 270, 308, 30-06 are less expensive due to mass production.

If expense is brought into the equation then 243 is your best pick.

I chose .270 since I may go Elk hunting again.
 
I just bought a Rem 700 25-06 for the coyote/deer/pronghorn combo. If I'm going after anything larger than whitetails it'll be an excuse to buy another rifle, which would probably be a 30-06.

.243 if you don't reload lots of factory jazz out there for it. The federal premium doesn't suck either. Cheap? last time I looked at prices for a box was floating under 30$.

If my wife said that I would have to get rid of all my rifles and only have just one, I would have to settle on the .243.

That caliber would take care of 100% of the things that I would hunt in Kansas.

My opinion would change to a .270 if I would expand my hunting to the lower 48!

.220 Swift! I know 22 caliber is frowned upon for deer but upon seeing what a buddy of mine does with his 22-250 (he's literally killed a hundred plus - one gun man and all that you know)I had to try my swift - it kills, well, swiftly! A blown up heart is a blown up heart, doesn't matter the caliber. Food for thought...

Datsun became Nissan in 1986.

My vote is for the .243, because I love mine. I've also heard great things about the .25-06 and .257 Roberts. I don't reload, yet, but may take it up in the future since it sounds like a lot of fun. I like the selection of factory ammo the .243 offers.
