Best rings for RRA

Just ordered my RRA Varmint EOP, Planning to mounting an 6.5x20 Leupold on it. Any suggestions or opinions on which is the best set of rings to use. Thanks Wade /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I use the Warne Tact rings on all of my AR's and bolt guns now that Wanre makes Picatinny rails for the bolts. With this system you can swap scopes around and able to repeat zero by use of a torque wrench.

The main reason I did not order the EOP when I got my RRA was that I knew I would be mounting a big 6.5-20X50 VX-III. I wanted to get that long eye-relief scope far enough forward and still get it centered between the rings. Extended mounts are not that easy with the EOP. You want your scope centerline about 3/4 inch above the rail top on the EOP to get the right cheekweld on the stock.

This all means that the front ring will likely be against the turrets, and the front ring will be as far forward as you can get it for optimum eye-relief. Real wide rings like the Burris Extreme Tacticals are less flexible when it comes to ring position.

Take a look at the scope setup below and keep in mind that the scope needs to be very close to this height, and the eyepiece should be near the same location relative to the action. It doesn't matter if it's an A4 or EOP the height and eye-relief is the same for this scope. I think you can make it work with the right rings. Don't get some flimsy rings to hold that big scope. Good luck with your new AR.

I have a set of Warne Tacticals, on one rifle, and an
Armalite one piece mount on the other. If I have no
intention of swapping out sighting systems, the Warne rings
are a good choice. Those Les Baer, in the previous post, do
look very SOLID as well. But beyond the cool factor, and
possible name recognition, they don't have anything over
the Warne rings. As for a quick disconnect, or maximum
mounting options, the Armalite one piece is as good as one
piece mounting system. I use mine on a carbine, where one
day it wears a Hologram sight, for close quarters, and
brush country predator hunting, or another day it wears
the Armalite one piece, with a scope for longer range work.
One thing the one piece does is it gives one many options
to mount the scope, relative to the eye position, when
one mounts the rifle. It works especially well for those
that want to mount the scope very far forward, which is
common on AR-15s.

I have a set of A.R.M.S. #22 rings on my Rock River. Can't complain about 'em. I've had 'em for a number of years now, and no matter how many times i remove my scope, it holds zero. I have a Leupold Mark 4 Tactical on top of mine.

Armalite one piece and the Millet Extra High rings are probably a poor choice for the EOP.
I have 3 of them and love them...but standard hieght mounts are needed.
I use Burris Xtreme Tactical mounts

Thanks for all the info from you guys, very much appreciated, SodakJim brought up the issue I am concerned about the most with the EOP already having a extra .75 in height and how to properly deal with that.

My bad! I missed the EOP part. In this case just a
standard set of Warne Maxima rings would be fine. Also one
to consider is the Burris Signature rings. The soft inserts
make lapping, and any minor alignment problems go away.

I once considered an EOP upper receiver, but after some
thought, I decided it was a solution for a problem that I
did not have. So all of my upper are A4s, and I use either
Warne Tactical, or Armalite, optics mounts.

Hey Big10gauge,

I found this photo on AR15.com that shows what your going to need for the EOP. I think a set of Low Warne Maxima Quick Detachable rings would be a good choice for your setup. You'll notice the scope is about as far forward as it will go and and as low too. The correct mounts will only have about 1/4 inch from the top of the EOP rail to the bottom of the scope tube. The power change ring and the eyepiece bell on the Leupold will not be a problem. If you haven't got one already, a Badger tactical latch is a big help with the low mounted scopes.

For hunting, I have found that regular hunting rings are just fine. I have a pair of medium Burris Zee rings (Weaver compatible) sitting on top of a pair of the short (3/4") Yankee Hill Picatinny Risers. They give another 1/2" rise. The whole set-up works great on with my 4.5-14x40 scope.

Why that combination? Because I already had the rings and because the Yankee Hill risers give me a good return to zero if I decide to take the scope off. If I don't choose to re-zero, I'll be off about 1 MOA.

I have a RRA Coyote upper with a Yankee Hill Scope rise. It works just fine with wide ring placement. Man that one AR with silver scope????????????? To each his own

I couldn't agree more.
I have a set on my RRA Varmint and they are solid as a rock.
