Wondering what you guys are using for scope mounts for your AR varmint rigs. Are the Leupold 2 piece AR rings popular?

I use the Armalite one piece for mine so I can get the proper eye relief.

I'm running the Armalite one piece mount as well. It's been rock solid....

I use the one piece mount from J&T distributing. Most of the guys that I went in on the AR's with have them and really like them. Puts the scope in the perfect spot for me.

While I have and have used some of the Millets, go for the Armalite, especially at that price... That's a dynamite deal...

How does everyone like the Model 1 mounts? I just ordered one on Saturday and now this deal comes along!! I'm thinking about ordering the Armalite too just in case or to have a high powered scope put on it for Varmint work.

That's certainly a terrific deal on the Armalite one piece mount, especially if you're mounting a scope that's been previously mounted (and now has "ring marks", etc.).

If you're mounting a new scope, and you don't want to put "ring marks" on it, you might want to take a look at the Burris Signature Zee Rings. They are rings that have polymer inserts that prevent marking up a new scope tube. They're available in both 1.0", and 30mm.

One of the best features of the Zee Rings IMO, is that you can get them with a set of polymer inserts that have predetermined "offsets". This will allow you to get the scope close to zero by just using the inserts. Then you use your regular windage, and elevation adjustments on the scope for the final fine tuning of your scope. You also don't have to be concerned about lapping with the Zee Rings.

On an AR, it will probably be necessary to purchase an extended rail (that just mounts to the rail on the upper) to allow you to get the scope far enough forward. You don't need but about 2-3" of extension forward of the existing rail on the upper for most scopes to be positioned properly.

Definitely not the cheapest way to mount a scope on an AR, but it does have its advantages, and is a very well thought out system IMHO.

Hangtime.

I have the Millet extra high mounts and they work great and are less money than the sale price of an armalite.

First I had the Armalite which was a little too low for me, then I went with some other one piece that was a little bit too high, finally I bought a LaRue Tactical SPR mount.

Granted, this isn't the economy route but I wish thats what I'd started out with in the first place. Next time I will.

Thanks for the tip on the Armalite also. Got one ordered. Now what do you guts recommend for a riser? tt

You don't need a riser for the one-piece mounts. When you put it on your rifle be sure to push it all the way forward and to one side at the same time, then tighten it up. By doing this you can be sure your point of aim won't change if you take it off and put it back on..

I never take mine off but would still trust it if I had to.

It's fine. Very similar to the Armalite but slightly higher. I'm using one and would buy another.
