BICYCLE HUNTING.....

Does anyone use a bicycle for hunting...if so... let us see your rigs. I need to take a picture of mine... which I use alot during deer season. I think it will work well for chasing fur when I need to get some distance from the truck. It should make it alot easier for carring myself... the gear... and hauling back the fur... we'll see.

You must be in better shape than I am. Out in Idaho we have these steep mountains that kick my a@@.

I also have thought of using my mountain bike but so far the truck is much easier.

Good luck with your pursuits.

I have used mine for scouting for turkeys or for fishing, but never actual hunting. I usually only hunt predators in the winter so it's usually off a snow machine or ATV. I guess it beats walking.

I use a bike to get deep into our WMA's for turkey hunting because 99% of them are gated. I'd like to see a pic of your bike and it might help me get mine ready for that.

I bought a new bike this year and camo'd it. I have a large state forest next to me with numerous bike paths and fire lanes so I should be able to cover some serious ground quick. A lot less time wasted walking.

Mountain biking I have gotten close to deer that I otherwise probably would not have seen on foot. It seems for some reason the sound of bicycle tires don't give off the low frequency of a bi pedal human tromping along.

In fact, one time in the summer during the middle of the day my g/f and I were riding through pasture land when we came up behind a new house and found ourselelves right in the middle of a big pack of coyotes that were gathered at the chain link fence eying some poodle in the yard. There were 'yotes busting past us in all directions. Lucky little poodle.

I listened to a back episode of The Predator Hunting Talkcast this morning where Brian Downs talked about using his mountain bike. Might talk with him. It was covered in the alternative tactics episode.

I've been think'n hard on this very thing, I aint used a bike in forever, when I was some bit younger I had a bike bought from a yard sale then painted it camo, tires and all.

Thers sevral places that dont allow motorized vehicles so a bike would be the machine to have, I've been think'n about gett'n in ride'n shape for turkey season this spring, maybe aftre deer season closes I can start hunt'n preds and use the bike to get my ready for spring, I need the exercise in a bad way anyhow.

A while back when the kids were younger i had a trailor on the back of my Mountain bike and when i wasnt hauling the youngin's around i did go hunting with it (you should-a seen the looks with a few coyotes in the back that i got ) I could pack a lot in that trailor but since then and now ive sold the rig... But it was really a great way to get to places where no-body was at... I even had a pair of gunracks on the bars that i got at a ATV shop they were origionaly used for ATV's...

I have handle bar holders for carrying my bow or rifle... which works great. My fanny pack goes in the basket on the front axle... and the boned out deer in a bag goes in my rear axle basket. Hopefully it will start carring yotes. If I get tired of riding... it's still easy to walk it out... carrying nothing in hand. My treestand is usually on my back during the ride... but it's weight is less because of sitting on the rear basket. If you want the kick stand to work in sand... then drill a hole in a small piece of flat wood and force it onto the end of the bar. When I rifle hunt... I always carry shooting sticks...which go across the handle bars with the rifle. Now I just throw the bike in the back of the truck...but I use to have a bike rack mounted on the truck's front bumper. I may have to put it back on because I want to have less noise in the truck area when hunting these yotes. I'll get some picture. Years ago when I was Co-Producing with Quest Video Productions... we made a video called.. Backwoods Whitetails. We then had a V-shaped, single tire deer cart that would attach to the back of the bike for carrying out the whole thing. I still have that cart...but boning and bagging is easier... but you can only leagally do that on either sex hunts... can't remove the head until later...but it doesn't matter on doe days.

I'd be worried about dumping it with the rifle on the handle bars, I think I'd carry the gun on a sling across my back, might be able to protect it better in case of a crash.

I was thinking bout this too after seeing all the MB people where I hunt.

Trails all over that I use to put on the sneak in areas without alerting every critter in the woods.

A bike rack on the truck and I'm gold.

I got a schwinn bike that not bad.

Camo up, put pack on, sling gun and away we go......

I'm surprised others are thinking bout this too.

Good thread!

With more and more public land getting closed to Motorised traffic, it make sense.

Your correct about public land...and that is all I have to hunt... BUT... it' still been possible to kill my share of critters with the ability of being mobile when needed. A few weeks ago I muzzleloaded a spike buck just before dusk... when I rode it out to my truck from behind the closed gate...three men in green were waiting... and scratching their heads as to why and who would go back there and how would I get it out. I took the bagged up meat from the back of my bike... threw it in the truck... and they said...Oh, now we understand. They said that i must be tougher than them to do all that for a deer. I said... Yes, I guess so...
