BICYCLE HUNTING.....

I'd say that a bicycle has every chance of increasing a predator hunter's success.

In cougar country however, I'd be pretty cautious though!

Puma has been known to give more than a few moutain bikers ...........

........... a CAT SCAN!!

We have cougars even at the home ranch and I thought if I broke out my mountain bike again .... I'd fit it with a good set of mirrors! My two stock working dogs would not let me go anywhere without them ... I'd be forced to have them in the trailer ...... and if they would raise pure Hadies over a cougar eyeing them ..... well, who's to prove I "used" a couple of dogs to turn the tables on an overzealous coug???

In our state a summer or so ago, a biker up north heard the tell tale gravel scratch sound of a cougar accelerating on a gravel road ..... he looked back just before the cat sprang.

The next moment finds the rider dismounted and using the bike as a shield and partial weapon.

It took a few very tense minutes to convince the cat that it ought to just move on but the biker to his credit did not overly panic!

Man this thread has taken a life of its own, glad its still go'n, got some good ideas.

Think'n maybe I'll get a rikshaw like they have in japan or maybe a unicycle, seriously a bike would be the bomb as far as gett'n around quik and queit, you can cover ground twice as fast and a wagon of some type and haul to the gear and game.

I'm think'n about gett'n a exercise bike to get into ride'n shape till the weather gets better.

SO...as Freddie Mercury says "GET ON YOUR BIKE AND RIDE !!!"

Make sure you check the regs. I,m 90% sure you must case your gun on a bike in my state. As I recall some about any "mechanical device" of transportation must have cased guns.

I was looking into putting a hunting mountain bike togeather. I ride a regular bike on occation for excersize and know that it would be great to get into stands at distance, particularly in flat country. I couldent find handel bar rifle racks. I had some on a trail 90 I used to own and use for deer hunting. Its too bad no one did post hunting bike pics so far,I really would like to see some. I was thinking of a plastic milk crate on a back rack for gear and the rifle going on the handel bars. Alec

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow... I use a low profile milk type crate for the rear... I think it's for 6-2liter drink bottles. A milk crate or anything a tad smaller can go on the front.

Y'all gonna drive them tree huggers nuts!!

You know the reason that you can't use a vehicle is because they don't want you hunting in there!!

I love it... Find me one of these put a little camo paint on it, and head to the woods!

One chunk of the national forest down here has a whole lot of No vehicle Allowed roads. They're all pretty nice roads, and not to sandy because there's no traffic on them. And, in our neck of the woods down here in Florida there are NO hills!

Just looked up the regs here. It has to do with the defintion of a vehicle. As written, "Vehicle- Any device capable of transporting a person on land,on ice, on water, in water, or in the air." Now add in the rule that says all firearms must be cased in a vehicle. May not that big of deal to some, but with the wrong officer Maybe a fine and or court date.

Man O Man... that rule doesn't give a man much room to wiggle... WOW. Come on down to SC... where there is still some freedom to function.

Now that's thinking... good idea... that's a camping/hunting combo setup for sure... I'll keep that picture in my favorites. Too bad we're not closer... we could hook up... thanks for the pic...

Back from the depths.

Going to look at mountain bikes this weekend so I can get behind/down the gates, pipeline, trails, etc.... Cover more ground.

Anyone got any pics of their rigs ?

I ride my mountain bike regularly. I have thought about hunting with it before but never tried. This year in the off season Im going to try scouting on the bike to cover more ground. If it works well for me then Ill try hunting from it.

I did a fair amount of hunting and scouting on my motorcycle last summer. In WA. we can run the forest service roads if we are street legal. So no ATV's or side by sides. (sucks) The only drawback is the dust. There are some no motorized areas that a bike would work in, but the hills are brutal and the condition of the roads even worse. Better off just walking.
