bipod or sticks? comments....

Looking for some opinions on this subject. I am looking to purchase one or the other and kind of want to know what everyone else favors and why?

A stick or better an adjustable monopod. Much easier to shift to a different position when a coyote is coming in, especially if you are sitting in grass. I can just tip it up with my front hand and swing the rifle and set it back down. Bipods tend to get hung in the grass in my experience and are hard to move. You can find old threads on this, by the way, and get lots of opinions. Been asked lots of times.

I like Primos TriggerSticks. Easy to adjust on the fly. I have short and tall monopod and short bipod. Most of the time I use the short bipod.

I vote sticks! Much more versatile, don't get hung up as already mentioned.. I'm still old school I guess because I carry a set of Stoney Points that are pushing 10 years old! Lots of good options out there!

So i went to the local sporting goods store and looked at bipods and the sticks. I would agree that the primos trigger sticks are the ones to have. They are just a little more pricey than I had expected. 109 is what they had them listed at, does this sound about right?
I also looked at some bipods for around 70 to 85, however I think that if I had the trigger sticks I would not really need the bipod right away.

I have the Primos trigger stick monopod... I love it. It's the shorter version. Going to try the bipods eventually but not because I don't like the monopod. Just like to try different things.

You are dead on about the Bi-pods ... thats what i use but i am fixing to change that with a primos adjustable shooting stick , the Bi-pod cost me my last called coyote , usually cost me atleast one a year !!!

Trigger stick, really? Tell me, how do you make a downhill shot with a trigger stick?

I've tried nearly everything and NOTHING works better than a pair of shooting sticks. If you plan to shoot up-hill, down-hill, uneven terrain or even in the snow, shooting sticks can do it all. Cheaper too! The trigger stick is just a gimmick in my opinion. Your mileage may differ.

I started with a bipod tall enough to sit and shoot with it. Used that for a few years and was always getting it stuck in snow snd tall grass. Switched to a pair of shooting sticks which was a good improvement to me. A few years later bought a bog pod tri-pod. This is the most stable shooting platform to me.

I agree with this.. Once you try shooting sticks, homemade for that matter, they will adjust faster than alot of shooting aids. A good set of nails in the bottom of the sticks grab anything but concrete and rock surfaces. They easily adapt to uneven terrain. Good luck on your choices.

The trigger sticks... ARE shooting sticks.... they are SUPER adjustable... all you do is pull the trigger and they quickly adjust left, right, up and down... they do it all... I have both med and tall sets... and I like the tall ones best because they can be adjusted to a sitting on a hill side perfectly... and even standing up against a bush or tree...

the tall ones are a tad to long if sitting on your butt... and on level ground... BUT... if your on a seat or on a hill side.. they work great....

Thanks for all the input guys, this has been great. I am thinking sticks of some sort at this point. would keep the weight off the gun and sounds like most of you prefer sticks of some sort. I also have been watching some videos and it seems that most of the guys on there are also using shooting sticks of some sort.
I will let you know what I finally do get.

But you need to operate a trigger? With a standard set of sticks, I just grab them at the base of the X and move them in one movement. Im not talking down your Trigger sticks, only stating how easy a set of Varmint Al type sticks work. I think they cost less than 5 Bones to make. JMMV

I picked up a set of Vanguard shooting sticks at sports authority on sale for $10 and they are the best thing I've ever used. They will adjust from sitting all the way to standing and its swivel to allow you to turn without moving the sticks. Check em out. They are suprisingly good for being so inexpensive.

I would agree with Tom Austin that shooting sticks are far more versatile. But for my hunting a bipod works better. We hunt very small rolling hills with short grass pasture. Most sets we are on the hill side in the wide open. We lay back and don't sit up until it's time to shoot. A bipod lets me move my gun from that laying position. Shooting sticks do not. I would not own a bipod if it did not tilt, cant and swivel though. Much to limiting.

Mono pod for me.

I also carry x sticks made from ski poles. Don't use them much but they are good to help me walk.
