Bobcats as pets ?

I used to work with a guy that had a pet bobcat. It liked to wrestle and hit him with its paw, but always kept its claws retracted so it wouldn't hurt him. It escaped a few times and would return, usually with a chicken from his hen house and would cover it with the grass in the pen. He came home one day and the door was open and it was gone. He thinks someone stole it. That was years ago.

We had a few pet coons growing up. The first one came from a litter dad found sawing an old hollow tree off the fence that had blown over. He was fun to play with, but eventually got too aggressive to mess with much. We'd take him to the creek to play and give him crawdads out of the minnow trap there. He'd get knee deep dunking it as he ate. His ol tail stood straight up. He didn't like to get it wet. My younger brother let it out one day to play and one of the dogs killed it.

I just stepped from the computer to toss some scraps down to a
Grey that adopted me. He and his wife unit had a litter before winter but yotes came up and killed them. They were great parents, always running scraps to the kits first before
finally eating themselves. He gained double his weight from
all the bar b q scraps I brought home. If I could figure how to send pics I'd attach them.

well then maybe you should keep your cats on a leash or on your own property. i see a cat on my property and IT IS DEAD.

when a person pays $30k for a new car, and someone lets their fing cat scratch the paint on someone elses new car, maybe the cat owner should get some of that medicine you speak of. i say kill all cats.

The sicko coward set up a spotting scope on his front porch shooting people's cats on their own property with a scoped .22. He had dogs so the cats weren't coming on his scratching his POS 30k, cheap paint Yugo. If he'd of threatened a cat's owner after what he did lets just say it would have been funner than coyote hunting.

I hate cats as well. I can see where some cat lovers would like the idea of having a bobcat for a pet. It's a unique pet kinda like the 5 pythons, green iguana, and tortoise I used to have. The snakes and iguana have moved on, but the tortoise is still with me because he's just plain cool!!

That how I feel about dogs; I don't mind cats so much. Why is it when you live in the country people think it's ok to let their dogs run loose on everone's property? Well it's not!

A friend of mine had one that was eaised with a Rhodesian Ridgeback. The cat and the hound were best friends. Kinda funny when you realize Ridgebacks were bred to hunt lions.

BTW a vet friend of mine advises to get pet bobcats fixed when they are young, before the hormones kick in.

I agree with u 100%, keep ur stupid cat on ur own proporty or its gonna become my coyote call, if it doesnt perform then it will be my target!
The only thing a cat is good for imo is to tie a rope around it thats not long enough so when u tie the cat to a fence post it cant quite get to the ground so it will crawl back to the top of the post and whine and cry till a dog comes in to get dinner.

I worked with a guy like you. One day he got his hand sucked up in a crane cable pulley while doing a lift. He lost a couple of fingers. I couldn't stop laughing when I heard about it. Karma is a B@#$%.

In my younger days I've had some exotic pets but nothing like this. Plus we have young kids. Good for them, but sounds like alot of work.

It's been about 15 yrs ago but my sister had a cat that obviously breed with a bob cat... My oldest girl got one of the bobbed tail kittens...coolest little cat I've ever seen. When I'd drive home after work, pick up my girl and pull in the driveway I could see the cat come running out of the woods to her... she'd hop out of my truck and the cat would jump up into her arms... only cat I've ever seen act like that.

I had friends in KS that had a bob as a pet. Richard was fishing on the river one morning and the mother dropped a baby in the river when she finally saw my friend. He jumped in and saved the little guy and took him home. That bob acted like a normal cat until he was about 6 months old. Then he got a little too aggressive and they put him out in the garage. He stayed around for another month then left. Came back for about two week a couple of months later. Then they never saw him again. That bobcat hated socks, you either went in their house with boots or barefoot. He would destroy socks!

A guy like me?????? Just so u know I have never done what I explained. A guy my dad knew did. But needless to say trying to say that something bad is gonna happen to me is pretty pathetic. O and to laugh at a guy who just lost fingers on the job is even more pathetic. Comparing a human being to a stupid cat is just dumb. U might as well be a freakin tree hugger.

I love all these stupid (people stories). These are all "wild" animals and nobody seems to understand that until there child looses a finger or an eveball or life. They just can't understand why it happened, he seemed so tame.

Theres a hellll of a lot more people that let the worthless cats run loose then dogs. Just watch when your driving around that tells the story. And i dont agree with them letting there dog run loose neither. Both harass wildlife and if on your property while doing it and you give the animals owner proper warning and it still happens then actions will be taken. To many animal owners that if they had a brain they would take it out and play with it. They should not even have an animal.

Quote:First, after 9 weeks we recommend declawing all four paws and neutering.

My family has always had pets, including cats, but I would never declaw an animal (I always neuter). If it is something that needs to be declawed, it's not a suitable pet IMHO.

My kids (daughter/nephews/niece) had cats, dogs, snakes, lizards, tarantulas, scorpions (emperor), fish, and birds. I always told them that cats were temporary pets. They were going to go outside, and eventually a coyote, owl, or neighbor was going to kill them. We've only had one cat that died of old age.

I got hunting rights in my area by trapping (feral) cats out of our RV/boat storage units and taking them out to ranchers for barn cats. Most ranchers would tell me to leave the cats alone, but shoot any dog I saw.

Other than my oldest nephew's boas, pythons, etc, any wild animal was eventually released to the wild as they became restless. If it's got to be kept in a cage, it's probably not pet material IMHO. (Aquariums for snakes etc don't count, LOL).

We had a blue jay that came back for several years. He'd land on the ground at your feet and beg for food.

My brother raised a squirrel. His pit bull thought she was it's mother and would get frantic when it climbed a tree.
