Bought a thermal optic

against my better judgement. I went with the NVision NOX 35 because of the ability to use it as a handheld scanner, helmet mounted (not likely to want to) or as a scope. I only shoot out to 125 yards or so max, at known distances, (usually off my covered deck) so hopefully it will do.
I rarely record and did not want the weight and reduced battery life of the units that do.
If history repeats itself, keep an eye on the Classifieds.

Thank you. Not a likely scenario (helmet mounted) for me. Mainly as a handheld scanner and weapon mounted for me. I don't know if I'll love it, I just hope it doesn't turn into another thermal horror story. I will keep everyone posted on how it works out.

Actually I'm not sure I'm getting it. I think the dealer I purchased it from may have scammed me. I bought it and used Paypal. Paypal said my money would not leave my account until the item shipped. The dealer gave me and Paypal a UPS tracking number. When I checked the tracking #, it says "shipment cancelled", but my Paypal money is ZERO. It's all gone.

Hard for me to believe all the scamming going on these days. It's everywhere. On the phone, on the computer, at the gas station and the list goes on. I hope it's just a mix up and you get your 35.

It's bad enough we have to worry about a "horror story" with expensive thermal products. Adding in the legitimate possibility these days of getting scammed makes the whole experience stressful!

Sure hope it works out for you.

Believe me, I freaked out. Here's what happened. Like I said, I bought the scope and paid with Paypal. The vendor gave me a tracking# which allowed them to take my Paypal money, but when I tracked it that evening, it showed the shipment as cancelled. At that point they had my money and the scope. I tried to call Paypal, but they were closed, so I started a claim against the vendor.

After I filed the claim (10:30 pm), I suddenly get another tracking number from the vendor. I called them the following morning. The office girl (Micaylah) was mad at ME for filing the Paypal claim. She said they always tell customers to call them before filing a Paypal claim. Of course I could not since everyone was closed. She said the person who processes UPS made a mistake on the first shipment. My opinion is, they wanted the money before shipping so to get around Paypals rule that they cannot take money before shipping so they figured out a way to do it. I told Micaylah, that they also made a second mistake. I asked Micaylah why when the shipment mistake was made, did THEY not call me (the customer) to tell me what happened, but I got no reply.

This paragraph is the real reason for this post. Micaylah, told me to go to Paypal and close the case against them. I did, and before clicking to close the case, a big warning came up saying that once you close the case you CANNOT REOPEN IT. I thought well maybe you can't reopen it, but you can refile it, but to be sure, I called Paypal. If you read nothing else, read this: ONCE YOU FILE A PAYPAL CLAIM, YOU CANNOT REOPEN OR REFILE IT IF YOU CLOSE IT. PAYPAL IS TOTALLY FREE OF THE ISSUE. The Paypal agent told me "Do not close the case". She said to wait until the item arrived (it was coming adult signature delivery), and when I received the item, then close the case.

Finally what to do? The second tracking was valid, the item was enroute. If I close the Paypal case Paypal and the vendor are off the hook. I called the vendor and talked to Micaylah and explained there were only 2 options. They could let the item be delivered and I would immediately close the Paypal case, or they could contact UPS and redirect the package back to them, and issue a refund through Paypal. Micaylah said she could not make that decision, but Jason, the owner, would call me back and let me know which way he wanted to go. Jason never called me back, but later when I tracked the package, it showed an address change had been requested. They did not even have the courtesy to call me back and let me know. You can tell a lot about a company by the actions of the management.

Bottom line, I am not getting the NOX 35 from this dealer, and I will probably get my money back from Paypal in 30 days.

I don't think the thermal vendors care at all about the predator hunting market. They want LE (law enforcement) and military contracts. We are nothing to them.

Obviously, some one notified the vendor of my post of this morning, because at 4:00 pm Denver time, Micaylah called me to tell me she re-directed the shipment back to them. Jason, the owner must still be hiding under his desk. She then sent me an order confirmation saying they had refunded my money. All is fine, they got their scope back and I got my money, right?
No, not really. They refunded the money to Paypal, not me. Paypal will leave the case open for 30 days, and will write me and say the case has been decided in my favor, and I will have my money back in a few days. Part of the penalty for doing business with them is a 1 month interest-free loan to Paypal-all because they wanted the money 1 day sooner.

On a positive note, my wife of 40 years who always try to make things better for me, said I can buy this:

https://nvisionoptics.com/product/halo-xrf/

after I get the money back.

If you don't want the weight, you have to give up base mag, and/or recording, and/or range finding. It's a tough choice.
Another point I would make is, it really depends on ones most frequent style of hunting. If you are going over hill and dale chasing coyotes, light matters more than if you are hunting from a fixed stand with some type of rest/tripod arrangement. I can relate to that 2.8# weight. I have hunted with an ATN 4K Pro 5-20 scope, and it's pretty close to that in weight.
