building a AR-15

before I forget. I have no intent on making a full auto weapon. I do know a guy here in Tennessee who does not even have a handgun carry permit, and carries a full auto AR on the front seat of his pick-up. He says he can talk his way out of it if he gets stopped. Count me out on this concept.

I sure hope that the talk his way out of it does not mean shoot his way out of it. That kind of guy scares me.

Hes not going postal, but is more of a used car salesman guy.
changing the subject,
I carry a Glock 27. Found a guy on you tube that converted his to fully auto. That guy really scares me.

What component should I spend the most money on? the Upper or lower? What is the most important and who makes it. also, who makes the best trigger?
Thanks.

Spend it on the upper. I like the RRA uppers. If you want you can have one built by Dtech or Dan Carey also. The RRA match trigger or even the Chip McCormick trigger would be best.

I am working on my third one in a month. Trust me it's addicting. I put my first one together, 16 bull barrel for 500 dollars complete without optics. Look around and you can find good deals. I found stripped lower for 85 and complete kit for 409 shipped. My next two will be in 204 from dtech and white oak.

What he needs to learn to talk himself out of is a midnight visit from Bubba, cause this fool is going to prison!

I personally think it's great that parts kits are available at a modest cost. I also think, if you are going to put one together, buy the best barrel you can afford. The accuracy comes from the barrel and not from the sum of metal parts used to hold the rifle together. I encourage anyone that wants an entry level AR to think about building their own.

I have rebarreled several brand name uppers and kit guns recently and the barrels look rough. But, the one and only kit gun barrel I shot, did around 1 inch with my match quality reloads. The were well under that with the new Shilen Installed.

Do AR's have a heavy barrel option similar to some Varmint rifle barrels? Im not looking for a heavy rig,and am not picking off Varmints at 500 yds. Just a good 250 yd .223 for Coyotes and Bobcats.

I had another idea. Instead of blowing a 12" hole of a front quarter of a whitetail at 150 yds with my 7MM, a headshot with a .223 AR would be very cool. Maybe a double tap, Sure would save a lot of meat.

Dan,and madfire.
Can you each tell me specifically every component you would buy and from what company to build the best AR under $ 800?

I want a .223 to shoot Coyotes and Bobcat,Fox. No small Varmints. All of my shots will not be longer than 250 yds.
I live in middle Tennessee, and huge open fields are not very common here.
Would prefer the weapon not to be very heavy.
I can handle the optics part of it.

I am not going to complain about any reccomendations you guys make.
Also if any of you need anything powder coated,I own a company, and will do it for you at cost or below.

I really appreciat the help.

I'm a snob when it comes to rifle barrels. I like Shilen then Krieger and there are a lot of other makers that build a very good barrel. The best barrels are the ones that are made by companies that only make rifle barrels.

For a cheap barrel that has a chance to shoot well you might give ER Shaw a try, they have been supplying rifle barrels to the firearms manufacturers for many years. They build a button rifled barrel.

I want to join AR15 as i too am looking to build an AR, but It won't let me sign up with a hotmail account and thats my only e-mail address? Anyone know a way around this?

I would say you don't need anything more than a standard 16"-20" barrel. Right now I'm hunting with my 14.5" barreled M4 with an M2 aimpoint. My shots are all pretty close also due to the terrain I usually hunt.

Not my first choice but right now I am waiting on new optics for my heavy barrel 16" AR. The heavy barrel is a waste of weight to me also.

You should be able to set up an email account with your ISP. I have never heard of an ISP that did not include at least one free email account.
