I got a set of thees ;( http://www.butlercreek.com/products/scopes_flip_open.html ) for my Redfield on the 22/250 a month ago. The last cold snap the back one fell off, I found it, then later that day I had the front one brake off. Is this going to be the norm? Are thees a bunch of crap or just an incident and I should get another one and all will be OK ? There not a lot of money but I don't want to be buying one every month. Before I get a replacement I'm going to try and reinforce and repair the one that broke I have a cover for the scope so you shouldn't see much of the repair.

What says you? crap or good product?

I've had quite a few of them and luckily never had a problem. I heard a while back that quality took a dive on them. My last set I bought I had to take my sunshade to my dealer and try several of them just to get one that fit snug. I was amazed at difference of the internal diameter of them even though they were all the same size.At least that's what the packaging said.

I will not buy them over the internet. Too risky to chance getting one that does not fit.

my old ones are great i have some newer ones while they look the same, but the quality of the plastic is not the same, the us in general is having these problems, the plastic were're getting is crappy and will get worse, i build trucks and let's just say it's very very bad....
..think we all need to get used to it, cause it's gonna get alot worse.....as the worlds resources get lower and lower the price for good stuff will go way up, while the rest of us are
offered crap.....if you got any old things take very good care of them, because you wont be able to replace them.......

I have one set that is quality, the other two sets are complete junk. I am looking for a better cap but haven't found one yet.

I have had mostly good luck with mine. Only problem is when I put gun in scaboard on my ATV, sometimes they get caught when I take the gun out.

I've had good luck with them. I've even adapted a larger size to fit a slightly smaller scope by coating the inside of the cover with black tape glue. I let the black glue set up before I installed the cover on the scope.

I'm on my fourth butler creek # 44 objective cap in less than a year. They break at the hinge. I have older ones (more than five years old) that are still fine. I'm getting more than a little fed up with buying them. I vote crap

I seem to break a fair amount of them at the hinge. They certainly do not take much side torque especially on a cold day before the break.

Just bought a set for a new scope. No problems yet.

You should have a lens over of some kind to keep your optics clean. It's a shame to buy nice optics only to have them operate like a junk because the optics are covered with dust and spots.

I have the Butler Creek hard style that flip up which I don't like & won't buy any more but do like Bikini style like rubber bands light weight & water tight better than flip up type.

I've had a bunch of them on different scopes over the years with very little problems but then havent needed to get any new ones either. Will keep that in mind.

I do like the bikini style for certain applications but have had the bands break on them too. Its rubber and it ages, they all do.

NB

Crap, the rear one broke on my son while out calling about two weeks after putting them on. All he did was push the button to open the cap, it opened the cap broke at the hinges and landed on the ground next to him. Thankfully Cabelas agreed to replace it free of charge. We'll see if the next one holds up, I'm not holding my breath though.

Butler covers,

I always carry extras sets in my backpack. They are just cheap plastic.

I hold them in place with black electic tape.

I like those rubber ones, too. But I keep losing them. LOL

Good. Have them on all my rifles that have scopes and never replaced any of them. I think the last set I bought was about a year and a half ago so maybe they aren't the same quality anymore.

I like the quality of the covers but it all depends on which scope I put them on. When adjusting the magnification, sometimes the flip cover prevent the bolt from closing. All in all they are a nice product.
