I've seen enough now on my property, trying to sneak up on our songbirds. I'm convinced I need to do something about it. What call works best? Rabbit distress, mouse squeaker? Any ideas?

Sorry, I just realized, i'm probably on the wrong forum with this. I don't know how or of I can switch. I ask on the predator forum, too.

I used to sit out on the patio after dark and make a lost kitten sound with my mouth. I never sat longer than ten minutes before a cat showed up. I would pop them with a 22.

Hummmmmmmmm word of warning. An Oklahoma City cop got a 5 year suspended sentence for kicking a cat at Will Roger's Airport a few years ago. Heck they might give you a death sentence for killing one! (Just do it without bragging about it LOL).

Maybe try a nice warm bowl of milk. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Seriously, a livetrap and a can of tunafish works quit well. I set mine in a garbage can that's laying on its side. When I get up in the morning and discover something in the trap I just pick up the whole garbage can, trap and all and put it in the back of the truck. You can then quietly and discreetly transfer the nuciance out of town. Of course I take it straight to the local humane society. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

they come occasionally when people are fox calling with a rabbit distress caller, but they come in alot more cautiously than a fox

We have them running wild all over the place here in NW Indiana. While some might not agree with it, I do call them in and shoot them. As a motter of fact, I just secured some land where the owner is asking me to shoot all cats that are spotted or called in. I do this in area that out in the middle of now wear and the cats that I shoot are very obviously feral. They seem a little bigger, have the uneven thick fur distribution on there body and of course- no collar! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have had the best luck with cats using the bird distress, any distressed cat sound, and rabbit calls. I call them at night and they usually come in slow.

I do agree though, bragging about it and posting pics on forums and emails is probably not the best thing to do. However, Feral Cats need attention too... Just on the Down Low!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd use the sounds that go with the prey; songbirds=bird distress....

I just snipe 'em when they sneak out of my barn...with whatever weapon is handy. As far as calling, see the above post from swampbird. then SSS (shoot, shovel and shut up. I've always wanted to type that.) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here is a dictionary definition:

a wild domestic cat, either born in the wild or reverted to the wild life, not tame

Quote:
Feral can apply to any normally domesticated animal that lives semi-wild. Cats, dogs, brother-in-laws, etc..

My brother-in-law read this post and keeps laughing. I don't get it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
