Dude, go to the pet store and look at a cat. Imagine that cat in the wild (either born in the wild or abandoned)and living in the wild without a human owner. That is a feral cat.

a feral cat is any one that the eye's glow from the redlights at night... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

a feral cat is one with any number of legs up to 4 and meows and is far enough away from the house to afford a clear shot

I got one hang'in around here again,he's long hair jet black, his day is coming /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif The last one I just took for a ride down to the river, (its ok he had scuba gear /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif) But this one I need to put a hole in because he's to smart to be trapped!! Since this will be the first one I have to shoot, I just want to know, is it appropriate and customary to give the ol' FUR DOWN after pluggin one? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif you know just want to get it right

Here's how my hunting friends handled the feral cat situation /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif. Of course this was many years ago /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. We would live trap'em and take them up in the hills and use'm to train hound pups to run cat /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif. It worked just fine 'til somehow some cat huggers found out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif. That ended that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I would not suggest that anyone should do that now even if it does work very well /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Greg223;
Let word cool down about it (6 months or more). Then just be more careful about where you do it, that should keep word from leakying out for a long time. If, however, you try to do it ever week someone will find out.

Honestly, calling a feral cat has to be like calling any other predator in. I can set a predator calling tape up in my garage on a player and my s#$@-stick cat will come from miles away, stalk the player and eventually cozey up to it and will start to lick it. It sounds bizare but watching it happen helps giving me insight into how animals stalk gaem.

Seriously, a livetrap and a can of tunafish works quit well. I set mine in a garbage can that's laying on its side. When I get up in the morning and discover something in the trap I just pick up the whole garbage can, trap and all and put it in the back of the truck. You can then quietly and discreetly transfer the nuciance out of town. Of course I take it straight to the local humane society. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I used live traps to get them out of our storage sheds. They were near Mom's house (cat lover) and it was easy to get rid of them as local ranchers are always wanting barn cats to replace the ones killed by coyotes and owls (makes a great introduction to get hunting permission on their land) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif.

I quickly learned to use a trap covered in burlap and of a size that didn't allow a skunk to get set on his front feet /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif (very steep learning curve there, LOL) and after that it worked fine.

Try a kitten distress or cat in heat call, a young rabbit or generic rodent will work too. I've called more in at night. A couple of white feathers tied above a steel trap works good too...
I was jogging last night and one caught a rabbit in a court I was jogging past, I heard the rabbit screaming and made for it. Somebody's tabby had the rabbit down and was about to give him his last. A switch across the head broke them up but he probably just caught the rabbit again after I left. I HATE CATS!!

I was turkey hunting 2 yrs ago and called 3 in they would easing along looking at the hen decoy . I thought they was going to jump on my helpless hen decoy. So i turn my Rem Sp 10ga with turkey loads on them to stop them well it did lol VM PS i save that Fether Flex hen decoy's life.VM

I dont get why this is such a big deal to shoot feral cats if you shot a skunk its almost the same deal. You killed a nuisense to your farm or someone elses you think it would be a good thing to put down a feral cat

Shake N Bake

Feral cats are common carriers and spreaders of toxoplasmosis, feline leukemia, various worms and other diseases. They carry and transfer parasites such as fleas, ticks, lice, mange mites etc. I don't shoot them, but if the next guy wants to, good on him!

I have a neighbor that will pay to have trapped feral cats spayed and neutered plus full veterinary checkups and care. If that's her thing, good on her.

One way or another, something needs to be done when it comes to feral cats.

Have you tried curiosity?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am not a bow shooter but I have heard that a cat will almost always jump your string because their reflexes and hearing is so acute. Is this true?
