CCW for large hands?

Finally looking to get a CCW. My neighbor has a half dozen small guns that he uses for CCW. The one thing I notice is the distance to the trigger is wayyyy too short.

I wear an XL glove, and I find that my G20 gen 3 fits my hand nicely. Obviously I am not going to CCW a fullsize pistol, but a trigger that lands at the middle knuckle cannot be good for accuracy.

I am open to or revolver. Any suggestions?

IMO, pistols are a lot like shoes. One size doesn't fit all. Sounds like you might should go to a shop that stocks a lot of hand guns and try some on for size.

I carried a G20 for a couple of months and finally decided that it wasn't for me. I got a 27 and have been carrying it for about 3yrs.now. I bought a G29, thinking that it might be the "one", but even though it is nearly identical in size to the 27, I just couldn't get as comfortable with the 29.

If you go with a Gen4 or newer you can tailor it some to your hand size with the backstraps.

The other thing of course is the holster, for me I really like the "Stealthgear" brand, little more costly but worth it in my opinion.

I wear 2xl size gloves and I carry a Glock 43 for edc. I shoot it as well as my 19. There are compromises, but it just happens to fit ME well enough and has become one of my favorites edc’s.

A lot of polymer pistols have grip inserts to fit various size hands. S&W, Glock, XD, Walther, FN, ect. could fix you up.

I carried a 17 for a few years before getting the 30. wife has had a 67 for 21 years now. I like it fine but recommend using the Pearce grip extension on the mags for it.

Grip fit seems mostly irrelevent to me. Pick the caliber you want, then the model, and make it work. You hold the grip, align the sights, and pull the trigger. It's not the olympics, it's combat pistol.

You don't buy a car based on how comfy the steering wheel is, do you? Maybe some do.

I want a pistol that will be used in high stress situations to fit me and be aimed where I point it. Not much sight alignment should be needed. Just my opinion.

I am not a big handgun guy. Last time I was shopping I do not think they all had the grip inserts. Everyone complained the G20 was too big and were waiting for the SF to come out. The inserts might be the solution. My neighbors guns probably have them, but he doesn't know what they are. He is the sort of guy who would buy a shotgun with shims, have no clue what they are, and toss the instructions and shims in the trash lol.

I thought about just getting a G29 to go with my G20, but still a bit heavy.I leave the G20 at the truck regularly because its annoying when hiking be it on my hip or chest holster. I know I will do the same thing with a CCW if its not light weight. I have a bad back so the weight makes me stand and walk funny and that eventually jacks my back.

I would go pistol shopping, at a place where the counter people will take the time to let you try different pistols, and then maybe even change the back straps until you find the one. It may not stay the one, because it takes carry time to really decide if that is the one. But that is the best way to start.

I carry my G20SF, in the woods, either in a Blackhawk CQB Serpia retention holster, or in a thigh rig, that isn't in production anymore. Yes that would be too big of a pistol, to CC comfortably for most people. I have seven other Glocks, with four of them suitable for CC. The G42 is for light clothing days, the G27 Gen 4 is for most other days, I have a G30, that I shoot in competitons requiring compact powerful pistols(I also CC it, when walking the dogs. We have wolves), and I have a G23 Gen 4, that I carry in the winter, or if I am going into a tough place where the odds are higher I may need a defensive pistol. The reason I settled on Glocks is I get reliable pistols, with different options, and the ergonomics and controls, are very similar.

I left my G27, on the nightstand at my cabin, so I called my brother, who lives a mile away from the cabin, and asked him to go get the loaded pistol, and secure it until my next trip to the cabin. When I got back there, he didn't want to give it back. He was carrying it on his daily chores, fixing fences, and riding the horses on his quiet time around our property! I happened to have a G27 Gen3, that I was thinking of selling, since I had replaced it with a G27 Gen4, and he quickly snapped it up! Regularly he still thanks me for selling him that pistol. He loves it, and that thing is with him everywhere! He found his "One", without going pistol shopping. He got to test mine out due to a rushed departure from the hunting cabin.

Yeah, I will go handle some. I am just trying to narrow it down so I know which ones to ask to see.

My glock is reliable and I shoot it well. Also like the versatility with the AA kit for cheap practice.

given that we have n amazing selection of pistols available, I simply see no reason to pick one that doesn't fit the shooter to his liking. sure, pick your caliber & start from there, but the odds are pretty good that you can find models that suit you better than some other models.

After briefly looking around I think I should look at A G42/G43. Maybe the Ruger LCP/LC9, and LCR/LCRx in .38.

I like the ammo availability of 9mm, but I like the weight and size of the .380 pistols.

It is hard to say, but I think I am most likely to pocket carry. Its hot as heck here in vegas and about 10 months a year I generally wear loose fitting shorts/cargo shorts. It would be easy to get to in the cargo pocket when driving. If walking around the phone could go to the cargo pocket and pistol to front pocket. IWB seems uncomfortable, especially driving and would require some new pants. Also harder to reach when driving.

I am calling to get the CC permit process started tomorrow!

You better have the where with all to pay attention to that front sight unless they are within 4 feet, you are not shooting a shotgun.
I would urge to you to attend some IDPA matches, fun, fun, fun!

Trippleduce660, with large hands you are going to probably enjoy a larger grip where you have at least 3 full fingers gripping the gun.

My EDC is a XDs .45. I have large hands as well, I have beat the heck out of this gun, and still fires every time I pull the trigger. I have others to choose from, but always end up going back to this....

You mention a preference for the 380. Try the feel of Springfield Armory's 911. I've had one for a few months now and love it. I too have larger than average paws and this gun just feels, points and shoots great. A bit more $ than S&W Bodyguard or a Glock (I have both)but worth it in my opinion.
