Tough times then, folks had to do as that old saying reminds us... use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without! I am old enough to remember my mother in the mid 1940's using the ration booklets to purchase necessities. As for the HOT coffee, I think that everyone that could afford coffee enjoyed it HOT.This picture of the Dust Bowl migrants going to California reminded me of my grandfather, who was a farmer. No matter the temperature, he would always pour his boiling hot coffee from a cup to the saucer. This was common among many of the old timers when I lived in the Central Valley of California.
