cold days mean hot hunting.

Awesome job!! I would say that the coyotes won't have much fat left on them now with all the cold weather we have had. -32 degrees here this morning and no wind. Enjoyed your write up and looking forward to voting for you. Rudy

I have never heard of a 5 dog stand.....wow! Great write-up, greater shooting! Congratulations! I am headed out in a few hours, this gets me fired up! Great job!

Man I’m done for now no pickup to get out to my calling areas and all weekend has been cold with barely any wind. Would be perfect calling weather once you get past the cold. Good job.

I was expecting to see a suppressor on the rifle with a 5 bagger stand. Great job, cool head (literally). If it were me, I'da had to change my pants!

Sadly up here in canuckistan suppressors are on the "bad and scary" list so my version of quiet is shooting an extremely mild load in the 222. I want suppressors in the worst way but trying to convince the cops an liberals to allow it is like pulling hens teeth.

Dang I want to get out bad! We just got a ton of new snow on top of the 8" we had, I am afraid I am snowed out of most of my places until a good Chinook rolls thru.

Great story and awesome hunt! This cold weather definitely gets them out looking for food. 5 kills in 1 set by yourself, you should be proud! Keep up the good work.

Wow! What an experience! Not one soon to be forgotten. And I’d say your writing did the job. You explained the hunt. All that’s needed for me. I too will be looking for this in upcoming HOM.

Today was not as exciting but I managed to pull it together. It was a bit breezy so i took to the hills hoping to hide from the cold a bit.
After 2 dry stands and one stupid miss at 200 meters then again at 300 I pulled up to my last stand.
I remember once hearing from redfrog that coyotes often won't run from a truck parked at a wellsite as they are used to seeing trucks there all the time.
Deciding to test out this advice I parked right next to the well shack.
Being cold and tired I only walked to the berm of the wellsite and set to howling away.
After a series of howling then distress I was finally rewarded by a lone coyote coming to my pup distress.
It was coming in on a string then all of a sudden stopped to peer into the trees. It took a lot of coaxing but finally I got him unglued from his watching.
This was the moment of Truth. On the next rise he would see my truck but lo and behold he crested the rise and took a good look around then when he took a glance left I sat up thumped him with the 222.

In the picture if you look close you can see the top of my truck beside the wellshack and the berm I sat on was the little rise to the right.

I think if I were to wake up from a coyote hunting dream it wouldn't be as good as the hunt you so vividly described. I'd give up my suppressors in a heartbeat to have that type of ground to hunt.

nope our weather has been all over the map this winter. november had us at over 2 feet then in december it warmed up and melted it all. today its -8F and tomorrow is forecast to be 23F.

I don't know about the cold days meaning hot hunting. When I killed my 6 pack last year, it wasn't cold at all. None the less, awesome job on the 5 pack. And you can keep your cold hunting.
