Colorado Wildlife Commission to ban Varmint hunting

Here it is again to start page 25.....

http://www.finsandfuroutdoors.net/index.php?option=com_beamospetition&startpage=21&pet=1

It's close to 1000 signatures now. Keep it going!!

On another topic...HSUS is a PITA. They're the ones who tried to talk Baker MT and Dickinson ND (among others I'm sure)into canceling their annual coyote calling contests a couple years back. To the credit of these organizations, the contests were held and have continued to be held.

There is an article in the local paper again, seems like every week, about someone having a problem with PD's.

Here's Monday's article. We can't even get our Walmart built...

This is the same area that about 6 years ago some people tried to hold a Flea Market on the land and the tree huggers sat at the entrance of the flea market with signs protesting because people set booths up over their holes... temporarily! They're nuts! I lived in Louisiana for a little while where there aren't a whole lot of these types and I don't think that most people who don't live around them realize what they're capable of. We need your help!

OK, we've over 1K signatures on the on-line petition! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Keep up the good work, guys. Let's double that in the next few days!

Hey guys,

I don't get in here to this board every day, but I do check through here fairly often. I don't know how I missed this thread!

450_Express mentioned it in a post this AM over in the Church, so I checked it right out.

I signed the online petition.

I just put a post up with the petition link in the Church directing guys over here and I sent Stu a PM asking if he'd possibly pin something to direct more traffic here. He's looking into it, there are the 501(c)3 rules to consider. I'm sure our site here would be leading the charge but for those regs.

(Has anyone checked to see whether our Guardian friends are a 501(c)3? If so, they are WAY out of compliance. Since they have staff attys they are probably OK, but the arrogant lefties sometimes think they are above the rules).

I also sent the following letter to the NRA-ILA:

I am deeply concerned about the legislation pending before the Colorado Wildlife Commission which would prohibit prairie dog hunting. I'm writing to ask for help.

This is clear incrementalism by the well-funded liberal group which is pushing this ban. They also have enlisted dangerous allies from the University of Denver Law School.

I am a member of the predatormasters.com online community and we are almost all NRA members and many, like myself and my son, life members. While we have an online petition, paper petitions and other counter measures, we are mostly a group of regular guys who have jobs, families and little time to devote to fighting this full time the way the other side is doing. Guys are bending over backwards to miss work and attend the next CWB's next important meeting. One of our guys is going to the two day meeting in May immediately after 7 straight graveyard shifts!

The other side pushing this nonsense is led by well-funded, well-educated, well-connected liberals who are plugged into the Democrat party (we've checked the officers' political donations). They have lawyers on staff and law students willing to do work pro bono. They also have access to professional p/r people.

I'm asking the NRA-ILA to fly one or more of our side's attorneys from VA who can coordinate additional needs with any other support people who necessary--such as p/r people to deal with the media. The opposition's best p/r tool is video footage of exploding PD's, which, out of context, looks just awful to the non-hunting public.

They have smooth, fast-talking lawyers who dodge the facts about controlling these pests and rely on emotion, not logic. We need somebody from the NRA-ILA out in CO on the ground to professionally execute this defense of our hunting rights.

We need professional assistance to win this thing. Personally, I don't even live in CO, but that doesn't matter. ALL hunters MUST stick together or the 'divide and conquer' strategy will prevail.

Please provide me with NRA-ILA's action plan on this matter so I can forward it to the thousands of fellow hunter-NRA members in the trenches on this. Many thanks.

Sincerely,

Matt McCauley

Now, maybe this can be won without them, but I figure their help can't hurt. I also know other of you guys have contacted them, but the squeaky wheel...

I'd like to get the newsletter too. Can I do that from my pred masters name or do I need to PM my regular email?

I'm a distance away, but I'm in this thing with you guys! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Thanks guys, you're doing great and I'm proud to be associated with you if even on a small level! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

Let me know what further I can do and I'll monitor the thread, too.

Finally, Claimbuster posted the political donations of the opposition's director. That is a lot of dough to donate for a guy who says he makes $46K, isn't it? Odd.

Good news: Stu posted the petition and NRA write up links, and the request for members to come here to get up to speed on the effort. Church guys are already hitting the petition! At least that's a little help!

Has anyone made an effort to get each mod to pin, especially the busy ones?

Sorry, I hadn't noticed Redfrog's global! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

There is all kinds of lists on anti"s snd animal rights people on the net, are there any sites that list organizations besides the NRA that are active in fighting the bills that want to take away a hunting rights.

You lay down with dogs {HSUS} you wake up with fleas {anti-hunters}

If I remember we had a ban on PD shooting east of I-25 on public land but since most of the land is private and didn't effect that we still managed to shoot afew PD.

DOW hasn't dealt with those private rancher here on the eastern slope as to banning PD shooting on their land again so I think we may be a long way from a ban on private land.

I saw some clips on those video's that started this whole mess and they just added fuel to the fire and I could see DOW having a hard time defending PD shooting as protraited in those video's. We can all complaining about this and that blaming DOW or whatever but what was DOW going to do I'm surprised those video's haven't make it to 60 minutes.

I really don't believe the videos posted on youtube (there has to be like a hundred) is what started this mess, this mess has always been around. Uneducated people think P'dogs are some sort of pet, a brother to a real dog. We obviously know the truth, they are a rat. If there was a video of guys out shooting some rats at the dump, no one would care. Problem is someone gave them this misleading name and people can't get past the name.

When I first posted I was surprised how many people feel all the videos should be taken down and we should hide our activities. To me, backwards thinking, but I've begun to accept that I am not going to understand this. I do see why people who don't understand the destructive force that is a P'dog find them offensive, but guys on this board? Really? So when my 22-250 is offensive to some tree hugger, should I deny I have it?

The videos were definitely a large and compelling part of the GUARDIAN'S presentation to the Commissioners.

However, I know that if videos were taken inside pork, beef or poultry packing plants, they would provide equally strong ammunition to the "militant vegetarians".

Email in response to my commisioner letter to Tim Glenn...

Chris,
Thanks for your comments. I heard many of the same concerns from about 30 different County Commissioners yesterday in Denver.

We're not the only ones concerned about this!

Was anyone able to call in to the radio show Fri. nite?

I was in Church 'till 8:00 pm. When I got in the truck and turned on 850 KOA, there was a baseball game on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I just sent this to Colorado's Game and Fish Department at
wildlife.comm@state.co.us

Go ahead and ban the hunting of Praire dogs. I’ll just keep on driving up to Wyoming, and I’ll be hunting up there instead of spending money at Colorado resturants and hotels. I’ll make sure my tank and stoumach are full too so I won’t have to buy gas or food in your state while passing thru. You better make a REAL economic impact assessment before passing this ill thought out proposal.

Petition signed by me.

I emailed anyone I could think of to urge them to sign.

I emailed Colorado to give my opinion.

Good luck.

Jim

A special thanks to all you non-Colorado guys, we really appreciate your support and won't forget if the day comes when you need our help.
